I would send an e mail to your local Police Traffic department and complain about the crater, They should get onto the council to get it sorted.

I would go to the local police station and put a complaint on file but not have them contact him (Yet) and then in the unlikely event something happens to you or your family or house it is logged.

We have two cars as well and have RAC cover , and have used them once within the last year , They got a local recovery agent to come and collect the car as no local RAC engineers available .

I would get advice from a solicitor as I don't think you would be entitled to compensation in respect of this even though it could have had severe consequences but it may be worth suggesting due to the inconvenience you have been put to having to call RAC and going back to get spare wheel.

if you have audi breakdown cover ,give them a call and they should be able to come out and advise (or any other breakdown cover ).

Can you somehow check if a new chain has been fitted without taking the car to bits , or if recent ask the garage for the old one , chances are they won't have it.
