Thanks for the comments guys! I'll give the S3 a go and see how I get on. A mate of mine has otherwise recommended the Abarth 500 as an option if the S3 is too thirsty, despite its girly looks it may be a potential goer with small engine and light weight!

I'd say S3 (maybe slightly biased) Had the chance at an R32 mk4 though and it was a lovely car. Lovely sound but front heavy and very thirsty! S3 has pretty similar performance, worse noise but its more economical, and the ability to tune at a lesser cost than the R32. Tough choice though!

Admiral have always been untouchable for me when i was younger, 1.2 punto was costing me around a grand at that age, but everywhere else was about 1500... Try also adding some older drivers like parents as named on the policy that can bring the cost down.

I can speak for the S3 owning one for a couple of years. Great performance imo from standard for a hatch, though once mapped the difference is pretty significant! engines even on mapped cars are very strong, it also uses the 1.8t (maybe the same as the A4 with slight upgrades?) downside of them...

IMO I think the m3 is a bit of a chav mobile, maybe a good car and all that but nothing says **** like owning an m3 lol if it were me I'd probably go got either the s3 if he likes what he ready has, or upgrade to an s or rs4? And the Elise or vx220 would be a good option for a real drivers car!
