    Snake Oil

Absolutely right, I did my S3 at 110,000 miles and the cr@p that came out of them was unreal, engine ran a lot better, much smoother and MPG improved, definitely well worth it. I go my ultrasonic cleaner for £30 so a well worthwhile purchase.

Thought someone was stealing my car!

Got same problem on My S4, had to get new switch today from Audi, £11 so not bad but, be aware they are fragile and a fit once only part. If you don't fit it correctly it will break and you'll need to buy another. I bought 2 as a precaution, will hopefully be returning the second if I don't...

    Farewell S3............... hello S4

Well after 6 glorious years and 110,000 miles it's time to wave goodbye to my 1999 S3, she's been an absolutely fantastic car and I will miss her. Replacement is a 2005 B7 S4 with 80,000 miles tiptronic and RNS-E. Many thanks to all the great forum members that have been truly amazing with...

Are ALL S3 Quattro's Skittish a bit unstable feeling on autumn roads?

A S3 in good fettle with decent tyres should feel very planted wet or dry, mine with Bilstein B8''s feels like a limpet still with 177,000 on the clock if yours feels skittish then its tyres, geometry or bushes most probably

    Quick S3 Valuation (Buying)

Condition and history more important than miles on the clock. At 175,000 mine is better than it was 6 years ago when I bought it at 63,000 as it has wanted for nothing, I've seen other S3's with much fewer miles that are FUBAR'd history is key to getting a good S3

S3 stock suspension, how it feels?

At that mileage they will be tired, the Bilstein B8 and Eibach Spring combo is a big improvement over stock and ride comfort has been fine over the last 70,000 that I've had them fitted. Definitely a very worthwhile upgrade, especially if stock suspension tired.

Probably best off posting a new thread in the 8P section of the forum, unless there’s already a thread running - good luck getting it sorted anyway

    Car Insurance

Paying £345 on the S3 and just renewed the 1986 Coupe quattro for £88 fully comp with agreed value and 10,000 miles a year usage on classic car insurance. Adrian Flux were good a couple years ago for the S3 but wanted a lot more at renewal and its definitely worth phoning around to the...

Loom replaced, still got missfire but not as bad - coilpacks????

SuperKarl, the problem is VCDS is not showing ANYTHING when I select blocks 015 and 016 I know it should be showing misfire detection but for some reason mine does not. Its a genuine VAG-COM cable and the latest version of VCDS.

Loom replaced, still got missfire but not as bad - coilpacks????

I agree, only problem is when I select blocks 015 and 016 the four data boxes remain unchanged, no labels underneath them and no values in them. Its as if for some reason blocks 015 and 016 are not active blocks if that makes sense.

Loom replaced, still got missfire but not as bad - coilpacks????

Hi Superkarl, Have just gone out to log blocks 015 & 016 and there are blocks that don't appear to be anything to log . I'm using a genuine VAG-COM cable and the latest version of VCDS. What are the 015 & 016 measuring blocks supposed to show? Cheers in advance Nige

Loom replaced, still got missfire but not as bad - coilpacks????

SamHendry, as long as you are methodical and have the time set aside for what is a fairly long tedious job you'll be fine. Just go slow and make sure each wire is right wire before cutting. The worst part is all the dismantling to just get at the loom. Keep us posted, and good luck

Loom replaced, still got missfire but not as bad - coilpacks????

Hi Sam, Well what can I say, its a bitch of a job, leave LOTS of time for it, I had to remove battery, airbox, TIP and several water hoses just to get access to the old loom and detach it from the retaining clips, then unwind the old insulation tape, trace the wires, cut, solder and heat...

Loom replaced, still got missfire but not as bad - coilpacks????

At the suggestion of some on here I have replaced the coilpack wiring loom to try and sort a misfire. Car is a lot better and the old loom had several cracks in insulation but there's still a misfire, generally around 2750 rpm and most noticeable under load, at higher revs car is usually ok, but...

Would Clutch Pedal Switch cause missfire under load???

Well started the task of fitting the replacement coil pack loom from Awesome GTI - What a pain in the ***, despite having read the guide in the how to section on the forum, its certainly not a 3 hour job by any means. The Loom on the car splits in two down behind the gear change linkage and...

Would Clutch Pedal Switch cause missfire under load???

Hi Bill, The fuel pump was replaced August last year so don't think it's the pump (Genuine Audi supplied) an going to check the Coil pack loom tonight and have ordered a replacement from Awesome GTI as it looks like the most probable cause and if it arrives tomorrow can hopefully replace over...

Would Clutch Pedal Switch cause missfire under load???

Thanks Lee that's great, looks like coil pack harness most likely, particularly given the 16 years age and 173,000 on the car. Have ordered up a harness from Awesome GTI today and will try and replace it on the car next week when it arrives. Of those that have replaced the harness, how did...
