    Alarm doesn't make indicators flash

Maybe get someone local to check it with their vagcom before buying it. Although I have a copy and don't even own an audi any longer! It is a worthwhile buy.

    Alarm doesn't make indicators flash

If the lights do not flash, this generally means the alarm is not armed. You may have an issue with a door, boot or bonnet sensor. VAG-COM will identify this, I would say however that its HIGHLY unlikely that a previous owner would have used VAG-COM to disable the alarm confirmation lights. I'll...

    diesel mots

Its a smoke test and they should not bounce it off the governor (that's the correct name for the "limiter"). The correct procedure is to take the car for at least a 5 mile run, with high engine speed to get the engine hot then run the car in to the garage and test it straight away. Any delay is...

    Sparks out of exhaust !!!

I would be a bit concerned about that, although it may only be bits of red hot carbon deposits being ejected.

Strong exhaust fumes outside and in the cabin

If as you say its coming in through the vents then its most likely to be coming from under the bonnet, I'd be suspicious if the garage hadn't found anything though. As PW says, the only thing that could be kicking out a stink under bonnet is the EGR or the PCV, I'd be inclined to check those...

Strong exhaust fumes outside and in the cabin

Crankcase breather fumes are totally different to exhaust fumes, they smell totally different. If a breather hose were off you'd see loads of oily deposits around the area it was split/disconnected. Open the boot after a run and have smell in there, the air recirc wont eliminate the fumes if...

Strong exhaust fumes outside and in the cabin

Sorry but that's a red herring in my opinion, how would exhaust fumes be escaping from under the bonnet? No hoses carry exhaust fumes either. Inside your boot on both sides are exit only vents, one on either side in the well behind the wheelarch, check to make sure they are sealing properly...

About to top up your oil? STOP!! Read this first.

I always found it best to have a short run in the car and let it sit for about 10 minutes to allow all the oil to drain back down into the sump before pulling the plug.

That's right but mineral oil does not normally go as low as synth.

About to top up your oil? STOP!! Read this first.

The makeup of the oil shouldn't make a difference in that case Andy, its the viscosity that is the issue, on really worn engines if the oil is too thin then it may not protect the engine components properly as its not thick enough to bridge some of the tolerances, ie hydraulic lifters may not...

you can't mix them, dot4 is mineral based and dot 5.1 is silicone based. you would need to flush the system with meths if you want to replace 4 with 5.1
