    Burning the vegetables!

Well this is the difficult thing - There doesn't appear to be any concrete evidence whether it is good or bad for you engine. So many variables to consider, I was in communication with a chap who had an a3 and he was quoting 70k on anything from a 60 - 100% I just recently emailing a chap from...

    Burning the vegetables!

After reading your post SiliconS I decided to give the lighter right foot experiment a go. On a full tank of pure diesel costing me just short of 90 nicker! I completed 5 return commutes, 1.5 of them at my normal 80-85 speeds and the latter at 70 max! It was quite difficult adjusting my speeds...

    Burning the vegetables!

Interesting findings! The figures I reported were a little out so I have amended as follows: 1. my current usage/cost 2. compared to your findings based on motorway travel resticted to 60mph - Total possible savings £18.33 per tank if I reduced my speed! 3. Total possible savings £32.38...

    Burning the vegetables!

So i treated my car to a full tank of diesel and it blew me back when the total came to 90 big ones! Now my mind is asking whether or not to consider scaling down the motor for a smaller 1.9 A3 or dare I say, GOLF?. Here are some figures I have put together with regards to running my...

Check this other thread out! http://audi-sport.net/vb/showthread.php?t=34759 1998 2.5 TDI running SVO for over a year currently 85p per litre! The idea is not a total NO-NO! on the older TDI's, its more the case on the newer common rail, however I have been speaking to a chap that has...

    Burning the vegetables!

Its been a while! I thought I would provide an update. The motorway monster has been running 33% during the winter months and still running absolutely fine, in fact, possibly slightly better than when i first got her. Some say that you should change the oil every 6000 miles but I have stuck to...

    Burning the vegetables!

I'm still around! I ran her all the way upto 60% but found it a bit juddery, until the oil had mixed up a little. She still drives great, only running on 33% at the moment! SVO has gone up a tad recently too! Now theres a surprise!

    Burning the vegetables!

Its been a while since I updated you guys as to my progress. I experienced a bit of the white smoke syndrome that seems to be quite a common occurrence after 100K and replaced the crankcase breather filter. All is good now and the car is running loads better. As this seems to be a common...

    high mileage remap

If you have the same engine as me, then you may find that the only way is to get it re-chipped as remaps arent available for these motors. I tried a few places and they said they dont do chipping anymore its too much hassle.

    Burning the vegetables!

I think it may be safe to say that my car is now running normally so back in with the vegetables. Running on 50% mix and found the car to judder a little when standing still but that symptom soon disappeared. 300 miles later and the car seems to be running fine.

DIS and actual MPG widly different..

It could be the consistency of the fuel you are using. I have xperimented with SVO and it effects the DIS mpg readings because the consistency is slightly thicker but the overall mielage is not affected.

    Burning the vegetables!

Well I have passed the first milestone - I managed to drive with less than 1/2 a tank of fuel in. Next I'll see if I can drive it down to the reserves! Its seems to be performing well enough. Lets see!
