I think... They all share the same platform from their next generations, the MLB thing. The Passat shared the B5 A4 chassis, but moved away in 2004 when the B6 Passat came out. the B7 (current one, about to be superceded, just a modified B6) hasn't got a huge amount in common with the A4 now...

The cylinder on demand with the new V8s makes them a bit more economical, so they might stay with them. They (officially) make 30mpg in an S6, so could see a bit more in an RS4 as it'll be a little lighter. I think a 270-450bhp gap between the S/RS models is too big, plus it wouldn't be able...
