I think people are exaggerating the relative benefits and pitfalls of 4WD/RWD on the road. A Cayman, or an M2 or whatever, will have WAY more grip and traction than a little Nissan Micra, Daewoo Matiz, Ford Fiesta, Fiat 500 etc. etc. - and plenty of them are driven round every day in the rain...

Just to say: 4WD gives more TRACTION, not more GRIP. Mechanical grip is affected by tires, diffs, suspension and so on, not the number of driven wheels.
