To Bose or to not Bose

I've had an 8L S3 both with Bose and then my current one which I ordered without Bose and have gone after-market with one of AndyMac's most excellent subs and replacement speakers all round. The standard 8L system without Bose is utter garbage and not worth having. I felt that for the same...

Symphony II - Wouldn't turn on, removing fuse fixed it

Anyone had this problem? The symphony II in our A4 (B6) wouldn't switch on all of a sudden, though I think I could hear the CD loader mechanism make some sort of whirring noise. Removing and re-inserting the fuse, which looked fine, from the main fuse box must have reset something as it then...

Does Symphony II need programming to take Phatnoise?

I modified the round DIN plug to its full complement of pins (looks like it rusted off) using a modified paper clip and the soldering iron and I've made some progress. Now the phatnoise powers up when the head unit switches on, but it's still not recognised by the head unit - and the phatnoise...

    more wiring questions

Yep, that's at the head unit end. At the adaptor end, the yellow y-connection is fed from the permanent 12v (pin 7) and the switched 12v (pin 4) connections, then is then joined and this goes into pin 7 at the headunit end. This configuration means your headunit will always be switched on.

    more wiring questions

You will end up with two 12v connections to the HU. One is the existing permanent live, that you currently have a y-split in feeding to the ignition on feed as well (ie. the unit is permanently switched on). The other is the new switched 12v ignition-on feed that you have obtained by following...

Does Symphony II need programming to take Phatnoise?

It's the round audio-style DIN, every where I've read it says 10 pin yet this one (second hand) has only 9. I am going to test this evening with a substitute pin in the accessory-12V position (a piece of paper clip!).

Does Symphony II need programming to take Phatnoise?

The cable only has 9 pins in the DIN connector at the changer end, so it does look like the cable is bust. Thanks. Looks like I'll have to buy a new one after all.

Does Symphony II need programming to take Phatnoise?

I've just had another brainstorming session and found that the DIN cable that came with the unit only has 9 pins, and that the switched-ign 12V pin isn't there (when looking at various pin outs posted on the web). Does this cable (the audi DIN changer cable) normally have 10 pins and have the...

Does Symphony II need programming to take Phatnoise?

Hi timps, do you know if the 12v line always comes on when the headunit is switched on? It does on my cable, but if it does it whether the headunit is programmed for a cd changer or not it doesn't prove much yet. I'm guessing it's a problem with the cable now, I'll have to check the pins. Thanks.

Does Symphony II need programming to take Phatnoise?

I've cabled in the phatnoise changer cable, but the phatnoise shows no signs of life. I found the following link which hints that the Symphony II needs to be configured to enable the external CD changer: http://www.ibiblio.org/tkan/audi/radios/symphony2.html Did anyone have to reprogram...

Rear cubby hole in A4 (B6) Avant

Thanks timps. That looks very impressive, a real pro job. I'll look into doing something similar for the phatnoise with the left hand cubby hole. Our right hand one is full of the bose tupperware.

Rear cubby hole in A4 (B6) Avant

Anyone know how much space is behind/around the rear left hand cubby hole (the one that's carpeted inside) of the B6 avant? I'm trying to find a good location for a phatnoise, and I'm wondering if that area can be modified. Our car doesn't have the rear cd-changer as we have the concert II...

    Fitting a MP3 changer

Andy, not all S3's seem to be pre-wired with it, it wasn't there on my '03 when I fitted your sub box.

problems playing back mp3's on my alpine!!!! any help please.....

I am making a wild guess here, but have you un-ticked the option "Acquire licenses automatically for protected content", you can find it under the Privacy tab when you select the Tools->Options menu in Windows Media Player. I believe that it's enabled by default. It may not help, but seems...

    CD Changer Connection in A3

I think I recall previous posts that say that the CD connector isn't always there, it depends when your A3 was made etc. It isn't there in mine for example.

    Retrofitting BOSE

[ QUOTE ] S3BeemerBeater said: my point was matie who ordered the car got those two (cruise control is a license saver on certain speed camera roads!), both of which are 'must haves' for me, but was too tight to get BOSE! [/ QUOTE ] Ok fair point. I had bose on my first S3 and didn't order...

No "ignition on" when installing aftermarket HU?

Matt, as Andy says it sounds like you have connected the permanent live and the ignition on the wrong way round into your Head Unit. I haven't got round to sorting the mod on my car yet, but I was considering grabbing the illumination input to the head unit from the glove box light feed, as...

BOSE OR NOT ( T Reg AUDI 1999) How do you diagnose

[ QUOTE ] Imola S3 said: Another way to check is to open the boot and look in the rear left wheel arch. If you see a big black box above the wheel arch - you have BOSE! [/ QUOTE ] Depends what model it is, the standard non-BOSE system in an A3/S3 also has a black box in the left hand cubby...

BOSE Replacement / Concert HU feed to a PowerAmp

Be careful at the top of the rear panel, my local installer found themselves paying out £450 for a new panel after they ripped the vinyl at the top of mine where they'd obviously pulled too hard from the bottom (3 month old car, I was very pleased I can tell you). I recommend you follow...

    Arial connection

On my non Bose S3 I used the autoleads adaptor PC5-52 (link below I hope) http://www.autoleads.co.uk/product/more_info.asp?kit=false&id=3183 You can get these from all the online outlets and I think Halfords do the autoleads stuff too. This adaptor uses power from the antenna power lead...
