When you see the car check everything works as expected, mechanical and electrical, it will take time so dont rush it. Spend...
Hi, Yes experiencing a not too dissimilar warm start issue. I think it’s indicating a worn starter motor, I did some searching on the forum and there are a few posts on here that describe a similar issue.
Analysis is that at cold start the ECU provides a richer fuel mix which ‘hides’ the fact...
Your decision also depends on how mechanically minded you are. I am guessing that with a service/repair budget of $9k based on buying the cheaper option you are relying on a garage to do all repairs. The older models have worked harder and benefit less from upgrades to eliminate...
Could only view listings for the ‘09 & ‘11, maybe the ‘12 has been purchased & delisted. The ‘09 suggests it has damage but from limited poor quality pictures it’s difficult to see whole condition of vehicle. The ‘11 is presented better. None of the listings show any service history which is key...
Hi and welcome to the forum.
I’ve not come across the issue you describe so I’ll share my thoughts.
First a few questions - when starting from cold what are the symptoms, the same as described or none? Are the symptoms you describe the same when starting with a hot engine?
Based on your...
Upgraded balance shaft and hex key now fitted. Thought it would be worth sharing the existing shaft and key to show the condition. It appears that the shaft has a hex slot rather than the more minimal ‘star’ type drive that others have described.
There is wear on the original 77mm hex drive but...
Facelift S-Line SP 2009 140 CBAB at 134K - Bought with a leaking brake servo and MC, now swapped out, halfway through upgrading the balance shaft with replacement oil pump hex drive (original not as worn as others on here so purely a preventative measure), oil level sensor/wiring issue to...
It was designed to be there for a reason so replace it, if the brakes fail due to a heavy right foot you’ll be a little upset and a few £ lighter after
For anyone following this thread the answers to my two previous posts are:
- 20nm + 90degrees turn for housing bolts and mounting bolts.
- The housing bolts aren’t available new and haven’t been as Audi only supply the whole balance shaft assembly. If that is the case then what have others done...
Hi,
Check the fuses and scan with VCDS, assuming you have access to the diagnostic tool? Also please provide details on the year and engine type as that may help others here to provide some answers.
Hi Folks - Does anyone have the part numbers for a) the stretch bolts that hold the two halves of the balance shaft assembly together and b) the stretch bolts to mount the housing to the crankcase?
The diagram below shows items 17 as a m8 x 40 (2off) for the housing but in addition i have...
Reached the half way point swapping the balance shat with the upgrade, a few curve balls en route, camshaft lock pin stuck and the replacement oil pump circlip is still in ‘the post’.
Installed the balance shaft and ready to torque the two halves of the housing together but can’t figure out what...
Thanks, Will give that method a try in the morning. For my understanding when you say ‘bump against the pin’ you mean tap it? In or side ways or other?
In the process of swapping the oil pump balance shaft the locking pin in the camshaft sprocket is jammed, it rotates about 5 degrees and have tried to pull it out but no luck, any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
Above my grade of experience to interpret those readings. However a simpler approach is to ask what if any faults VCDS has recorded or what problem are you looking to resolve? Also would help the Forum if you posted a bit more info on the Year & Engine code to help narrow it down.
Planning the upgrade of the balance shaft and oil pump this weekend on my A3 2009 2.0 TDI, parts from KMB arrived today, and looking to follow the procedure as described in this post below:

One query - The method recommends turning the engine by...
