Wow that is expensive over £20k to drive an 8V for 2 years, they must be expecting some poor future values too. Audi certainly like to keep the APR up if they can which probably accounts for a lot of that extra cost. I don't know much about BMW finance but Mercedes seem particularly competitive.
Hi all and thanks for including my little Hullavington wet track video in the thread, appreciated.
Just to add to the debate I recently had a chance to drive my RS3 back to back with an M135i, I wrote up the trip here...
The RS3 didn't get much love from the media from new so that might explain it, they prefer the ditch finding 1M because they must all live in sunny climates where it never rains, or maybe not... It's the same story with the A45 AMG and even the newest 911 Turbo - they are 4WD so supposedly they...
Great write up DeckedS3, I was interested to see the dyno results. My RS3 didn't make anywhere near the APR Stage I figures on the V1.2 map and showed that same high RPM drop off in performance.
The v2 map feels much stronger on the road and some more dyno results will be available tomorrow...
Back on the crazy driving theme, Nick Trott tells a similar story about a Mk1 TT Roadster making a 120mph pass on him dawdling along in his McLaren 12C - jumping for joy at the overtake while nearly wiping out 2 cyclists! So all sorts of cars get involved in this sort of thing.
audiboyuk, it sounds to me like you are ready to try a track day or 2 to find out just how capable your S3 really is. The track is a lot more fun than the road, all the action is legal and a lot safer as the traffic is going the same way. If you meet a Focus RS (not the 500bhp beast above though...
Cool pictures and story Keith, I'm not much of a BMW fan but your M3 looks great on those wheels.
That's exactly the sort of road trip we used to do pre kids!
Here is one such day, and we didn't mind a mixed fighter force either!
As for the others comments about getting the mrs into driving...
Have you considered an RS3? That way out of the box you'd have something quick and sorted without needing to spend money on mapping it etc. A stage II tuned S3 has about the same performance as an RS3 out of the box. Of course the tuning potential is also there with the 2.5TFSI should you...
The 'slashed zero' is the German symbol for average. If you notice the instantaneous mpg screen doesn't have the symbol.
Average in German is Durchschnitt which literally translates as 'cut through' hence the symbol. You learn something new every day!
That MPG was from a wet trackday - it...
This could be for so many reasons but I'll hazard a guess or two:
1. Whenever I drive slower the MPG goes up, could this be the mysterious cause?
2. It's the summer holidays and there is less traffic, this usually means more MPG...if you drive at a similar speed.
3. Your other half...
I agree with all the positive views on DSG and S-tronic. I first owned a 3.2 TT roadster with DSG and that was superb at the time. More recently my daily driver was a Fabia VRS (1.4 180bhp) with the 7 speed S-tronic - it was the perfect every day car and totally reliable. The s-tronic gives a...
I have the AP racing 362mm discs on my RS3 from Dave at VAgbrembtechnic - I'd highly recommend these.
The Brembo 'high carbon' discs also work well. There is a solution for every price range.

I can understand you wanting the RS3 front discs if you want the look, they do look good being 370mm and all.
I've spent quite a bit of cash on brakes over the past few years and if its braking performance you are after I think you can do better with aftermarket upgrades. The RS3 discs aren't...
I stick by what I said earlier with driver training but 2 points from your selected quote above. It seems to me you are most interested in drag racing Golf TDIs, somewhat ironic as the A3 is often considered a Golf in drag.
- Conti 5Ps might be expensive but they are far from the best. Try a...
Honestly if you are serious, and I mean this sincerely, spend a tiny percentage of the money you've spent on mods on some good driver training - the ultimate upgrade, best of all you get to take it from car to car.
Modulate the throttle, I've seen plenty of people burn the extra power from...
I've got the front AP disc set up on my RS3 too, a big improvement over standard.
In my experience grooved discs always make a droning sound, caused by the grooves. I'd say there is a little more vibration back through the wheel and brake pedal too - but I see this as a good thing as you...
2nd paragraph here might help for an easy explanation:
What does the writing on my tyres mean?
Or here is the full law if you prefer:
The Motor Vehicles (Approval) Regulations 2001
It's good to hear this from someone with the power to test the tyre to the maximum. With the PSS on the RS3 ran out of brakes pretty quickly (resolved with an AP upgrade) and now as you rightly say it's the suspension that's the limiting factor, especially in the wet when the suspension runs...
