01274 - Air Flow Flap Positioning Motor (V71) - 003 - Mechanical Failure

I've got the fault on a 2004 Audi A3 8P 2.0 TDI

01274 - Air Flow Flap Positioning Motor (V71)
003 - Mechanical Failure - Intermittent

I whipped off the glove box to get the exact part number but found I had two of the air flow flap positioning motors.

Does anyone know if this fault is specific to one of them or do they normally both fail?

Or is it just best to replace both of them? It's just the furthest one away looks a nightmare to get to.

That a fault for that specific flap motor (V71). There are several of them behind your dash, some are straight forward to get to some are a big dash strip-down.
Before getting involved with a strip-down I'd clear the fault, run basic settings on flap motors and monitor appropriate measuring block on actuation. If problem persists it tends to be mechanical.
