I recently bought a 1.4 TFSi and I love the car but already I'm begging to wish I bought something with a little more balls, As the car is financed its not really possible for me to trade it in for something bigger without loosing 2 grand or so and I've only had it 4 months so I was looking at alternative performance options, I read that the turbo is almost peaked as standard so re-mapping only gives around 10 more bph, and it was then I discovered some threads about the LOBA turbo upgrade, I was just curious to see if anyone could give me any more information on this. I read someone got 270bhp out of there 1.4 engine which I highly doubt but again that's an uneducated opinion from me. I'll list some questions and I would be grateful if anyone could answer them!

What else would need upgraded along with the turbo?
What is the realistic expected results?
I've seen the price for the turbo which was around $1200 but what kind off labour cost would this include for fitting?
Would this be worth it ? (I know a lot of peoples opinion would be sell and buy something else but I would quite like a project!)

Hi,

I own a 1.4 tfsi sepang blue s line and i was in exactly the same boat!
i have a full custom turbo back exhaust (with plenty of silencers) as it is a decat
and a stage 1 remap at a local tuners to me and it is now pushing 172 Bhp and really is a joy to drive!

However i am also looking for other performance upgrades so let me know how you get on with the turbo route!

That is not a bad result mate! How does it feel? If you don't mind me asking, what kind of cost did this involve?

There are a few threads over on VAGOC in their 1.4TFSI forum.

1.4 TSI Tuning | VAGOC.co.uk

In short, you can get over 240bhp from the engine, but it requires a lot of work, and a lot of cash as well.

To be fair, getting over 200bhp/litre from a modern forced induction engine is a relatively straightforward thing to do,but anything over 150bhp/litre tends to cost a lot,and in many cases may get close to reliability problems.

The 2.0 and 2.5 TFSi engines are easier to extract 200+bhp/litre figures from, but getting the sort of figures quoted by dexx913 shouldn't be too difficult or expensive.

Yea it really is a great little drive and amazing running costs!
a friend of mine has a standard 1.8 tfsi and mine is a fair bit quick through the gears

not to much if I'm honest about a grand in total it gives you everything you need from a car really.

cheers

172bhp is very high and I think you will struggle to get much more from it without upgrading the turbo. Majority of mapped 1.4 tfsi's run from 145-155 so yours is doing very well.

There's a few 1.4 tfsi's with bigger turbo upgrades that are running around 250.

The 1.4 tsi twin charger can hit 240 with some tuners at stage 2.

What's the difference between yours and the 1.8 tfsi? Yours much quicker?

Is there any companys that specialise in audi tunning where I could look for some options/qoutes and extended information? I live in central Scotland so just where ever was closer to me, Thanks!

I know a lad in Scotland that had his 1.8 tfsi mapped to 240bhp with a company called etune. They seem a great tuner and I think if I was you I would want to try a remap and a nice exhaust before I set out spending thousands on a turbo upgrade.

Yea it does have a CAI and full TBE with the map swell.

It isn't much quicker however as its mapped the gear ratio is better so it just pulls away in almost all gears!
and Brotek are up in scotland who are also forum sponsors give them a shout i heard they offer great work.

For driving experience get a short shifter too does the world of good!

I need some help lads! I have a Audi a1 1.4tfsi charge cooled, I’m wanting to upgrade the turbo and don’t know what to upgrade to because the bracket is very different and I need to know somehwhere that might be able to upgrade the turbo I have got? Ive looked into a bigger heat exchanger for the charge cooler and that will run better along side a bigger turbo! Please help asap
