I have been qouted £107 + vat for a standard shock and £80 + vat for a standard spring. That's over £400 just to replace the rears. I am thinking I could do better, and probably replace the whole lot for not much more money. Any recommendations either for aftermarket kits or a cheaper place for standard parts please.

I am not bothered about lowering the car!

Jeeze, a whole set can be had for that.

How handy are you with the spanners?

I have a set of rear shocks and a spring you could use for a £60 +post

Spring was removed fom my TQS and the shocks from a 77k S4

Are the shock same from S4? If so and then the shocks are not leaking then lets get something sorted. Do you have the other rear spring?

Shocks are the same yes, Boge reds. No leaks with bump stops and spring seats intact. Its only the spring rates that vary on the S4.

I only have one rear TQS genuine spring, the other snapped and i ended up changing the whole lot

If you fancy it, PM me and we can sort you out

I just cut the spring to make it upto a full coil off and done the same to the other side. It depends where its broken if you can do this.

Why not get a 2nd hand strut.
saves you using a spring compressor to replace the shock.
On my 1998 TDi the struts were not keyed so one would fit either side, not sure anout you model though.
Try the following contact they might have one in stock.

I think I paid about £40 for mine.
Make sure you give them as much info as possible so they send the correct part.
