Hi all,

I put 4 new tyres on my S3 in march and have just notice that my back passengers one is bald and my back drivers on is nearly bald????

but the front 2 are fine? i have 2 new tyres ordered for this weekend but dont want to fit them just for them to wear the same again.

can anyone help me with this?

Thanks

Define bald? inside edge or across the whole tyre? have you lowered the car and if so do you have tie bars fitted...

Rears on an S3 typically outlast the fronts by 2:1... typically rears wear if the haldex is ******** and locks on, lowered at the back with no tie bars and negative camber is in excess of 2degrees or the swing arm bushes are gone...

Alignment check would be an idea if you haven't had one too...

Like Tufty says, certainly check the alignment. My passenger side was toe'd in way too much and the inside of the tyre wore down way before it should have.

It will make a good bit of difference to how the car drives too if it is that.

rear passangers side - bald as in no tread on the inside edge and on the tread block on the outside edge.
rear drivers side - on the tread block on the inside and 1-2mm on the outisde

Car is lowered 30mm on springs without any tie bars.
Hopefully not the Haldex as it was only serviced 6 months ago with new oil and filter.

Is tie bars the answer given the bushes arent knackered?

cheers

I think the pressures are worth checking too.

Normally the shoulders wear when under inflated so its a good shout.

Hi there,

Sorry to hear about your wear problem!

What kind of wear is it? All over? inside or outside? Irregular wear?

As you have checked the pressure has your vehicle been lowered?

Also why tyres were they? Premium? Budget?
