Might be a silly question but how are people planning to use these? The cars aren't easy to steal without keys are they?

Most of what I've read here suggests breakins to get the keys are the biggest threat. Do folk think it will act as a deterrent if scumbags are casing the car / house?

Saw another 2 posts on FB today about stolen Audis one was an a7 in Glasgow and another was an Range Rover and a5 cab in stoneywood

I'll probably get one but I'm not sure I'll want to stick it on the car everynight and I'm not planning on leaving the car anywhere shady!

Forced to agree with the above - I don't really see the benefit of these any more.

Car security has evolved to the point where they're basically un-stealable without the keys, hence breakins to get them. The vast majority of people are going to keep their disklok key on their keyring so, if they have the car keys, they have the disklok key. Deliberately keeping them in separate locations would be a monumental pain in the backside.

To put off casual scumbags, and people who might pick up the code from the advanced key...

If they really want your car, they are coming in to the house after the keys. In which case one argument says don't make it too difficult for them.... Like keeping Disklock key elsewhere, or having keys upstairs. That's what GAP insurance is for.

I only use mine when it's in a public place.

I've had one of these devices for a number of years, I don't always use it, particularly when the car is parked in my alarmed garage, we also live in a quiet rural area on a cul de sac so little passing traffic.

But I do use it when we go walking, I'm always careful about where I park. But it gives me a great deal of extra piece of mind.

Nothing is 100% free from theft, even if you were sitting in your car it can get taken from you. It can get trailered away too, so always do what you can to make things difficult. That way hopefully they'll move on and pick another target. Always put some lock on the steering when using the lock which adds to the difficulty level.

I can personally attest to how difficult it is to remove one of these things. I used to be a motorsport photographer, specialising mainly in Rally's. We were in the forests of North Yorkshire and got back to the car only to find my partner had dropped his keys. The car had a disklok on. After two hours searching in the dark with a fast depleting torch we called the RAC who sent out a vehicle locksmith. It was easy to gain entry to the vehicle but it took him two hours to remove the disklok before making us a new key. We got home at breakfast time the next day!

If you don't want to use it outside your home, that's fine, its your decision, but when parked up elsewhere perhaps?

I already have a silver Disklok that I used to use on my old Honda Integra. I highly recommend you get the cover as well(see attached pic I got from their website), as the lock will scratch the steering wheel.

They are a great deterrent but I found they are a pain when not using it. I had to store it in the passenger footwell, and when its in the footwell folded down the handle inside the disk used to rattle and bang about, drove me mad lol. The only way to stop it was to stuff it full of rags.

Never hear a peep from it.
