I'm a newbie to the forum but have a query I'm hoping you'll be able to help me with.

I recently purchased a 2016 B9 Quattro Automatic with the DSG 7 speed gearbox. It's an ex lease car so it has high mileage (90,000).

I have the car in with an Indy mechanic (I've asked for all filters and oils to be changed).

I also enquired re the gearbox servicing. He hasn't the tools to service it so had to bring it to his local gearbox specialist. The specialist in question is looking to change 2 filters and the fluid.

What I want to know is - is this actually safe and the recommended? He'll have to open the gearbox to replace these and I'm really worried as I believe this is a sealed unit and could impact the gearbox in the longer term.

Any help or guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Hi there, I believe the service interval for the oil and filter(s) for the S tronic gearbox is every 38000 miles. Your should have had it done a couple of times by now. I don't believe "opening" the gearbox is necessary, would have thought changing the oil would not be too difficult but it might need to be pumped out if there is no drain plug.
There are independent garages that offer an S tronic service if you don't want to pay the dealer price, which I think is usually about £225 ish.

Hi Scuba. Many thanks for the response. What the Indy told me was that Audi sent out the filter and oil as part of the service. There is a delay as the gearbox specialist wants to change the one inside as well. He said it's common practice to change these as flushing it out won't get rid of the particles on the inside filter that may exist.

Just a bit nervy about them opening the gearbox and was wondering if anyone had similar done to theirs?

Had my gearbox (OCK) serviced with both filters and oil, I also had a leak on the bottom pan that got changed too. Cars done 95,000 at the time.
