1st service for my 3.2

Hi

It's nearly service time for my A3 3.2.

It's done approx 18k & this'll be it's first service on the longlife service interval.

Audi have quoted £330 - pretty steep I reckon for what basically amounts to an oil change. There's a VAG independent specialist down the road from me who will probably do it for under 200 quid - but I'm slightly concerned about the warranty situation.

Does anyone have any experience of using a non audi dealer for servicing their motors while still under warranty?

audi charge £85+vat per hour - thats what you are paying for

if it was me i would get your first service done by audi - try haggle a bit since it is your first time (so to speak lol) looks good on the logbook if you come to sell before the next service

failing that bring it to an audi specialist

Look on the sticky servicing thread on this forum where people list their quotes and where from.

When I totalled up all the figures in Jan 07, average for an A3 on here seemed about £240 for first AVS. I paid £199.

Call\mail lots of dealers and get itemised quotes. I had quotes from £199 to over £300 for the same service! From memory the basic 1st AVS was 1.1 hrs labour on my model and if you required the pollen filter changing it went up to 1.3 hrs (pollen filter every 2 yrs), this time is specified by Audi - some may try to charge you more when they shouldn't. Mail Audi Customer Services, they'll verify the labour time for your particular model - customer.services@audi.co.uk

Not sure how often the Haldex needs doing on the 3.2, you need to let us know if that is in the quote.

Brake Fluid has to be done at 2 years too, £78 to £98 typically. Was this included in your quote?

Stick to Audi for at least the first 3 years. If you've paid so much for a car why save £100 on a stamp which will help you sell it on for a decent price and make sure Audi won't quibble you over any warranty work if you keep it.

Gotta be the way, if you are looking to but an 18k car would you buy it wothout the Audi Stamp?

I would try phoning around to some other dealers. If you look at the AVS Servicing 'sticky' thread at the top of the forum page you will see that quite a few members have paid around the £200-£250 mark. It may even be worth travelling a few miles to get the service cheaper or get a quote and see if your local dealer will match it.

I agree, friend of mine takes his Jag 80 miles for his servicing and still saves lots. I have always found if you tell them you have had a cheaper quote your chosen dealer will usually match it.
I believe from an Audi sales manager that the main bulk of money the dealers make is on servicing and not selling cars. ???

The first service on our car was £154 at about the 56th week(probably less oil than the 3.2 but the same labour non the less). That was from Walton Audi.
