2.0 petrol front tyres?

Just parked up and noticed that the centres of my front tyres (contisportcontact 5) looked more worn than expected! 3mm with just under 6,000 mile on the clock! What is everyone else getting on theirs and do you switch front-back?

When I had the S3 I got 17,000 mile on the original set of tyres.

PS: Pressure in the tyres are correct.

EDIT* Hmm found this after a Google: "We do not recommend tyre rotation and we do recommend fitting your best tyres at the rear of the vehicle". So my best are now at the rear

Maybe just lower the psi slightly. I remember having a issue with my 8P even tho I followed the manual. After lowering by 1 or 2 the tyres worn evenly then

In a two wheel drive car they used to recommend the tyres with better grip at the rear to counter over steer. Maybe this has changed with suspension set up these days.

Changing the tyres over is no more economical- you just wear them all out. Best to keep an eye on the overall tread and change the fronts when low IMO.

I changed the fronts at 24,000 on mine and the rears are currently on 29,000 and look to have some good levels of tread left still.

Sounds like a plan Just a pain if I need to change just before I hand the car back next year.

If you think they won’t last then change now to get the benefit yourself rather than the lease co.

Swings and roundabouts, could change now and then get a non repairable puncture in a months time!

What tyres did you go for in the end? I’ve just been told by Audi I need to replace my front Continental Sport Contact 6s as they’re at 1.9mm after 7,000 miles.

Would rather not have to be replacing them every 7k

I managed to stretch them out to the start of November, by that time they were down to 2mm @ under 7,000 mile! I went for the same that was on it, chances are I'll be handing the car back in September so I didn't want to give them any excuse to knock me for having different makes/none Audi approved tyres on!

I got the guy that did the service to do them as he guaranteed no damage to the alloys! think it was £280 for the pair (plus he put them on the front as the rears were still on 5mm, so said it was safe!). He said the quick tyre wear was down to it being a heavy front wheel drive car car doing a lot of stop start short trips and Continental's are known for good grip but bad wear! That backed up what Audi had told me, the warranty guy had said he has 2 customers who both have Q5's, one gets twice as many miles out of his tyres as he does a lot of motorway miles vs the othe customer who mainly does town driving.

I did have a look around at other makes though, if I was keeping the car I'd have gone for the the 'Bridgestone weather control A005', they get good reviews and are also all season tyre, for mine they were £125 each. https://www.blackcircles.com/tyres/brands/bridgestone/weather-control-a005

That is a really good looking car. Every time I'm at the local Audi dealer and I see an S3 I regret not getting one instead of the S5. But now I've been driving the S5 I'm not sure I can give up all the little bits of Tech that you either can't get or are really rare on the S3.
