The time has come to find a new owner to take care of my S3.
The reason why I am selling it...is that I take it out of my garage twice a week to do approximately 20-30 miles. Due to living on the edge of Oxford, most of my driving is urban/suburban and I barely get chance to get above 50-60 mph and spend too much time in traffic. The car needs to be driven and it is wasted in my ownership. I have no pressure to sell and it has taken me a year to get to this point.
I have tried to list every fault with this 19 year old car...it has had 4 previous owners before me and at least one of those owners has smoked in the car. It has not been smoked in during my time owning it but I had a dog for the first three years of ownership so there will be at least one dog hair in the bootspace. If either of those things bother you then this is not the car for you.
With the exception of the scrape I put on the rear bumper, I would like to think that I have been the most caring owner to date. When I purchased the car, let’s say the guy that sold it to me managed to hide a few horrors, which I don’t want to happen to the next person. I have spent a small fortune on my S3 over the past 6 years so hopefully that means the next owner will have a calmer time than me.
I am limited to 50 pictures and I can't picture every detail, more pictures available on request, so here goes..
Purchased in February 2016.
2003/03 Audi S3 8L, colour Brilliant Black (LY9B), mileage currently sat at around 149500 and will rise slowly. Service history before me was sketchy and I have had it serviced annually on top of any other work done by either myself or my mechanic.

HPI clear as far as I’m aware, I did a check before I bought it but I don’t have a record of that as it was via phone.
ENGINE & EXHAUST
Original BAM engine (so the best if you believe the hype) @ approx. 149500 miles, undertrays are present and in reasonable condition.
Working aircon/climate control
Custom remap carried out in 2008 by RAPID REMAP (no idea of bhp figure as it has not been dyno’d) I guess it would be around the 240+bhp mark.
Cambelt, waterpump, pick up pipe and new sump fitted by Audi in 2016 @ 131800 miles approx.
TOPRAN oil pump fitted and pick up pipe cleaned by myself in 2017
Reconditioned Turbo (from Turbotechnics) fitted by my mechanic in 2017 @ 135000 miles approx.
The engine/turbo run sweet, it doesn’t smoke and pulls nice and strong. Like all high mileage 1.8T engines, it does use a little oil though, but it is leak free, so no oil on your drive or garage floor.
You do get a little misting of oil which I think comes from the cam chain sensor gasket.
Original manifold, downpipe and catalytic converter with a Milltek catback non-res stainless exhaust
No warning dash lights on.
GEARBOX, CLUTCH & DRIVETRAIN
Original gearbox and drivetrain, clutch was replaced 2011 @ 117000 approx.
Haldex serviced and filter changed in 2018
SUSPENSION
Original suspension, rear springs replaced and rear ARB polybushed in 2016.
WHEELS, TYRES, BRAKES
12mm hubcentric spacers fitted to fronts
20mm bolt on hubcentric spacers fitted to rear
Replica 17 inch RS Alloys in good condition, running Prestivo 225/45/YR17PR XL tyres with 4 locking bolts...all tyres have good tread remaining. Also included are the original Avus alloys which would benefit from a refurb, but are perfectly straight and usable so ideal for winter wheels/tyres. Original 20 wheel bolts included (only 3 are locking). Also included are 4 genuine Audi wheel/tyre covers for storage of your spare wheels.
Original brakes running standard pads with good life left in them. Calipers have been painted black with S3 stickers.
The car does have a random squeak, at crawling pace, from the driver’s side back wheel, this has been checked by my mechanic and he’s told me he can’t find anything wrong and I need to drive it more!
Pair of new rear wheel bearings included that came with the car.
EXTERIOR/INTERIOR LIGHTING
Front...
Ebay Auto headlights switch fitted.
Dip beam 5000K D2S bulbs (originals included).
Main beam 5000K Halogen bulbs (originals included).
LED side light bulbs.
LED indicator bulbs.

Comfort indicator relay fitted (one tap gives 3 flashes).
EM Tuning rear numberplate bulbs fitted.

Smoked/Tinted (Road legal E-marked) rear clusters with LED strips for Brake and Tail lights.
Indicators fitted with LED bulbs.
Reversing lights fitted with LED bulbs.

INTERIOR LIGHTING
All interior bulbs have been replaced with EM Tuning LED’s.
Puddle lights with S3 logo fitted.
Red ambient footwell lights fitted (illuminate when sidelights are activated) these trick the ‘bulb out’ warning tripped by the LED rear clusters, so no fault lights showing. Spare bulbs included for these.
INTERIOR
Original Leather seats (non-heated) in good condition overall, driver’s bolster is good. Only real downside is a small cigarette burn where the rear passenger seat back and base meet, that has been repaired in a past ownership, in my opinion is not a great repair, but only really noticeable on close inspection. Carpets in good condition, slight wear under driver’s mat. S3 mats fitted (original mats included...driver’s mat not great).
Both seat backs have scuffs.
Passenger side sill kickplate trim has a small bit of damage, driver's side is good.
Scratches on heater panel and the buttons have been swapped for pre-facelift, as original ones had lost their soft touch coating.
Soft touch coating scratched badly around ignition barrel on steering column.
Passenger side rear interior trim panel has a crack at the top where it meets the B pillar.
C pillar interior trims have some marks on them.
Small cigarette burn on driver’s door card (only seen when door is open).
Boot space has been well used but not too ropey, LED bulbs installed. Custom RHINO bootliner included.
Original space saver spare and tools with hazard triangle. The piece of trim below where the hazard triangle is stored was cracked and has been glued (only seen when triangle box is removed).

Full BOSE audio system.
MK2 RNS-E with radio code, retrofitted by myself, currently running 2010 map disc.
(only one map disc and this needs to be kept as it would be needed to return the software to 0150 revision so that any coding can be done if you wanted to add a reverse camera in future. This is because if a current map disc is used, this would run fine but also update the software).
2 x 32gb sd cards included for mp3 music.
Aux in and Bluetooth music streaming installed.
USB charge socket fitted.
Audi oem bluetooth module, retrofitted by myself, giving hands free calls, phonebook, call log, etc.
There is a scratch on the screen of the RNS-E but it isn't really obvious when switched on.
Original Symphony II stereo included with code.
EXTERIOR
This is the weakest point of the car, as in it has suffered from 19 years and almost 150000 miles of road rash, chips, dints and scratches.
A small part of the scuttle panel is broken but can only be seen when the bonnet is raised.
It suffers from the common S3 8L rust areas...The roof rail on the driver’s side has a patch that is approx.. 30 cms long but hasn’t changed during the 6 years I’ve owned the car.
The numberplate plinth has quite a bit of rust bubbling.
The driver’s wing has rust patches.
Not so bad on the passenger wing. Both sills are good and solid and I have painted the underside with underseal.
Both doors have some fingertip size rust spots bubbling under on the lower sections but I couldn’t get them to show on a photo. The driver’s side rear quarter has some spots in front of the arch and a thumbprint size one just above the driver’s side rear blade.
The passenger side rear quarter has a few small bubbles and a light crease.
I put some nice scratches on the rear bumper/arch to add to the marks and scuffs already present.
Both door blades have been bonded by myself, so look pretty good.
Genuine original Aluminium door mirrors...do have some chips and scratches that may benefit from a polish, spare set of black mirrors included (once I find them in my loft!)
GLASS
Windscreen replaced in 2021 so nice and clear. The driver’s side front window has some vertical scratches, with one being noticeable as it is approx. 15cms long...I’ve still had trouble getting a photo of this, I put a strip of tape behind it but it doesn’t show up as bad as it is.
The rear quarter windows and rear window have been professionally fitted with aftermarket tint with the oem look.
There is a shadow of the wiper arc on the rear window where I expect a previous owner let the wiper rubber run low. The car is currently fitted with Bosch wiper blades.
Despite all the wear and tear to the bodywork, after a wash and polish, the car still shines lovely and from a metre or so away, it looks stunning. The exterior pictures were taken after a shampoo and treatment with T-cut 3 in 1 black polish.
Also included is a HP 6910p laptop running windows 10 with vcds Lite installed and an Ebay cable so you can do some fault finding/basic coding. Battery life is poor (about 10-15 minutes from full charge) but can be replaced cheaply and a mains cable is included along with audio and monitor leads.
In summary, what this car needs is a new owner who understands that they will be spending most of their money on bodywork/paint. Once that is improved, I believe you will own a modern classic that is set up to be used as a daily or weekend fun car. It has pretty much every comfort needed for modern driving and still holds it own with cars that are much younger and way more expensive. I guarantee you will find better S3 8L's out there, I doubt if you will know as much about them as mine.
These cars are getting rarer by the day...don't let this one slip through your fingers!
