2008 audi a3 1.9 front end rattle

noticed a tinny type rattle the other week from the front end of the car when driving over uneven ground, not loud, but annoying, its like a loose heat shield type noise, not a suspension type knocking at all. makes no difference accelerating or not, clutch up or down, braking.

are there any common places for this type of noise to occur before i start taking the plastics covers off to take a look?
