2008 Audi TT Soft Top Roof wont open

Hi

I have a 2008 Audi TT here, soft top, however the roof doesnt go down. What happens is the latches on the A pillars/top of windscreen unlock and the roof lifts up about 1" about these, but nothing else works.

There are no faults in VCDS and doing the output tests to reinitiate the roof dont do anything. It begins the test, I press the button to open the roof and it opens in small increments until it gets about 1" off the closing mechanism and does nothing further.

The measuring blocks in groups 5 and 6? (from memory) show all zeros.

Does anyone have any clues of what I can look for to try get to the bottom of this?

Sound like the same symptoms the A4s have, sticking carbon brushes and/or dirty commutator are the most likely culprits.
