Hi all,
I just picked up a 2012 A1, Japanese import. Its a great car but I've noticed some clank or klunk type sounds from the floor and under the dash.
Under braking, you can hear what sounds like brake pads moving around. The car was MOTd with no issues reported there but I've read that non OEM pads can be a bit noisy.
More seriously, there are fairly consistent clunk type sounds when pulling off and slowing down. Im tempted to say it's the gearbox. I've never had a DSG so maybe it's one of the clutches doing it's thing, but the noise of it sounds similar to dropping a phone onto an aluminium sheet. It's quite a quick, pronounced sound which is too loud or different sounding to a stone hitting the undertray.
The gearbox oil was changed by the dealer we bought the car off, but saying its the gear box is a complete guess.
