Hi guys, new to this page and quite in experienced when it comes to the ins and out of gearboxes and mechatronics issues, so bare with me
So i own a 2012 audi a6 sline, 109k miles. Full service history, very well looked after car when suddenly 3 days ago i get the ( gearbox malfunction , can continue to drive with limited function) appear on my screen, car was driving fine till this light appeared, i seem to have narrowed down the problem to moving the gear stick from any position to reverse, i got my local mechanic to run a dicnostics on the car and got a fault code [ 17090/P0706/001798 ] transmission range sensor [F125]implausable signal, i had then emailed a gearbox specialist local to me to dig further, his responce was to replace the mechatronics at a cost of 2500euros +labour included, my questions really is, i have sorced a reliable second hand gearbox with only 20k miles at a cost of 950stg, and as i plan on selling the car once fixed. would it be as straight forward as replacing the gearbox getting it coded and happy days or am i missing something , will replacing my gearbox get rid of my issus. Any help guys would be really helpful i amm at my wits ends trying to figure this one out. Thanks
