Hi All,
I know this is an audi forum, but I have a vw touareg 2013 with tdi engine, which a lot of Audis have the same engine. And I've noticed there's more feedback on this issue in the Audi forums, more so then clubtouareg.
I have a coolant leak that collects in the valley of the engine. I have changed the water pump already thinking that was it, at the time. Since that wasn't it and after continually looking for leak, I found info online that this seems to be a common problem amongst the Q7 and TRegs. Not a lot of DIY info there as it's kind of an in-depth process. I'm not paying dealership to do this for me, so I tackled it myself. I have taken the intake off, egr off, engine oil cooler off and mounting plate.
Can't really see where or what might be leaking. Initially thought I might just replace gaskets and seals, but once I started the job, I got to thinking, "this is a pita and maybe I should replace the engine oil cooler and mounting plate as I don't know if they are really ok." When I checked ECS Tuning for gaskets and seals, the comment for these items for the engine oil cooler it says, "Common source of leaking."
Talked with VW and they quoted me $391 for engine oil cooler and mounting plate assembly, same one on ECS is $303. Found them on eBay too, for $65. Can't seem to find out if these are aftermarket or not.
Has anyone else had this issue and if so, what did you do? Do you think the $65 one off eBay will do the job??
I'm really afraid of just replacing the gaskets and seals, getting it back together and having to take it allllll apart again....lol
Thanks for any feedback.
Jeff
