That's a shame Sean as you've had every version haven't you? Even PFL to FL!

It’s a grower
The more I look
The more I get used to it being how it is
Not sure I like it yet
But never sat in 1
Daring to be different and a moving forward
Past is the past

Yup but I’m afraid (and I ain’t the only one) that the dash looks like 2 people designed it and they never spoke to each other.

I’m afraid the 8V was the pinnacle of Audi’s interiors.
Too much scratchy plastic in the new 8Y.

There’s daring to be different (Merc A45s is an example) but completely losing the plot like Audi have done isn’t on.

One side looks like the rear of a PC with the vents running across the other looks like they designed it and realised at the end, s&£t we forgot the drivers side vents, I know we’ll stick em on the binnacle and buyers will think it’s an Urus

I think I am with you on that. As much as the 2.5 litre 5 pot is a huge positive (although less so now with the toned down regs) the interior of the new RS3 I believe would feel a big step down from the Merc (who have massively upped their game IMO). The Merc feels well thought out, balanced, neat, high end, high tech, quality materials. The Audi as you say really does look as though two people designed it and then combined them. Time will tell, it may look better in the flesh, but as things stand, I may be waiting to see what a face lift offers in a few years or stay with Merc of course. The Merc does not sound anywhere near as good as my pre FL RS3 but it never was going to was it. But it is clinically fast and it looks fantastic inside & out so its keeping me happy.

Think I may have said this somewhere on the forum, I personally love the RSQ8 and hoping they take design of the front end from their top tier RS and bring it to the entry tier RS3, I would cream if it looked like this

Found a couple more photos. Different rego from the car above, still appears to be a development mule as it has the bolt on front guard extenders (as does the one above) rather than the flared guards and slot behind the front wheel that I’ve seen lapping the ‘Ring.

I’m probably in for a close to 2 year wait until they sell them here in Australia, but reckon Florett Silver with black optics and the front wheels shown on this car, will look rather tasty.

https://www.alvolante.it/news/audi-rs3-2020-foto-spy-369578/foto

Kind of hard to tell from the photos, but looking at the one with the white cammo RS from the rear, the tread blocks on the front tyres look wider (especially the second block in from the outside) than the rear. Maybe they are sticking with wider fronts(?), which surprises me a bit - granted, it’s a long way from “Ready for Sale”

I hope it doesn't stay like that as it's almost identical to the new S3?!

Which ever way this goes for me it’s got to knock it out the park on the looks
I won’t pay £15-20k more for one that resembles an S3 no mater if it has 100-140 more horses
Baby rs6 would be good with 40mm extra on the arches

Have you become an M-B sucker now @Snake Pliskin . Do they have a forum where we could gatecrash and say how wonderful Audis were.

Just seen the light mate :icon thumright:
Very much enjoying the A45 & it’s refreshing to have a break from Audi.
I’m sure I’ll get another Audi at some point & most likely an RS3 but based on the looks of the current model, it may be a facelift in a few years.

Nothing wrong with change but like many I don't like M-B styling or finish. Mate has a GLC SUV lump in metallic red which just looks awful. I appreciate looks are subjective but M-B bling is far too OTT for a quiet chap like me.

That dash though they’d need to change the interior or cut those vents off the binnacle.

Yes mate ... unfortunately there is far too much I dislike about the new 8Y.
The vents, the tacky looking MMI screen, the HUGE front lights etc.
The Merc isn't to everyone's taste, but the interior feels balanced, premium quality and modern by comparison.
Lots of people complain about the flat Merc screens, but again I love them and they are very high resolution.
I'm sure the new RS3 will be a great car, but it could have been a superb car, but for a few tweaks.
Hopefully the 5 cylinder engine will be its trump card again though.

Regarding the MB to quote Top Gear..... 'it feels like it's almost worth the money'
The A45 is a complex car, both hardware and, especially, software. Inside Mercedes has tried to give you as muchaccess to that as it can. I’m not sure about this. Maybe ifit’s the only car you’ll drive, you’ll be au fait within a month, but as a car to jump in and drive it’s very, verycomplicated.

For starters there’s the configuration of the two mainscreens. These can show pretty much anything you like, from navigationand fuel economy to engine data and lap times. You’ll need to use them as well to set-up the car’s Individual configuration. That’ll take a while. And then there’s the TrackPace app, the colour displays, the alternative layouts. The fact of the matter is that Mercedes doesn’t appear to have known when to say ‘whoa’ when the graphics department started pouring information onto the screens.

Too much data. And mostly controlled by a pair of irritating steering wheel thumb pads and a mouse pad on the console – ****** tricky to use on the move. There are a few helpful button shortcuts and despite the confusion, the cabin ambience, layout and design is lovely. It feels almost like it’s worth the money.

The seats are firm and take a good grip of your ribcage. They’re really good when you’re hurling it about, but you do find yourself squirming in them when you’re not. The big bolsters are fine, but the seats needs the auto equivalent of a mattress topper.

The interior of the A45s looks like it came from the spare parts bin of an amusement arcade

ha ha .... I wouldn’t say it’s as bad as slagging off lol, but you’d think that by some of the remarks.

As you know, I’ve had Audi’s for 12 years so I’ve been very loyal to the brand, but the others (Merc & BMW) have caught up, where they were lagging behind.

I’ve no doubt I’ll have another Audi but I certainly won’t blindly praise them or not discuss their current short comings.

Caught up where they were lagging behind??? M-B used to build solid over engineered cars, however the Daimler Chrysler takeover around 1996 was the beginning of the rot. Now building cars with Renault engines and full of bling. Not for me mate!

Yeah I get it, you won’t buy anything but an Audi so blinkers fully attached and not falling off. I used to (would have still to be fair) but the 8y just wasn’t doing it for me and after previously thinking the way you do about the last A class, the current one was a completely different animal. I know you don’t like the modern interior of the Merc but I really liked it and it felt very premium (which on the last A class they failed miserably). As for build quality, time will tell, but this one feels solidly built and no squeaks or rattles. As for the engine, 430bhp from a 2 litre with zero lag, come on you have to commend that. It’s insanely rapid & will kill many cars twice the price.

I really don’t know why they didn’t port across the same interior to the 8y ?

yeah those ‘Lambo esque’ vents are a major talking point aren’t they.

I will and do buy vehicles other than Audi but I doubt very much I would buy a modern MB. They are not to my taste design wise and the quality perceived or otherwise is in my opinion not there. In saying that I’m not impressed with the new 8Y in that respect and the Q3 Vorsprung Sportback we had for 5 months had some very tacky plastic more akin to Seat than Audi.

M-B looks like a Play Station...

What's a Play Station, that before or after my time - when I was 16 back in 1961 a Play Station was the g*rl next door :whip:

Each to their own guys and even that depends on so much including if you like it or not - sorry, that's back to 1961 (and I still can/do remember)

For sure there's nowt post 2016 AUDI I like and/or would contemplate buying for now, the interiors are all too Mickey Mouse
