Hello,

I am aware that there are a lot of threads online about these but I was just wondering whether anybody could confirm for me whether a '59 plate A3 1.8TSFI would be chain or belt driven?

I've read something about if the dipstick is on the left then it's chain driven. But I can't find a picture online of an audi engine whereby the dipstick is not on the left, so maybe this is not true (or I haven't looked hard enough!)

If belt driven, when do these need to be replaced? Again same with chain (I've read many mixed reviews)?

Thank you in advance, I really appreciate the help!

Great, thank you.

Do you know anything about whether they need replacing? Car's done around 85k

It should state in the hand book when and whether the chain needs replacing. I have a 2009 58 1.8 tfsi with 52k on, runs great and decent power, will be a shame to see it go when it does. Enjoy the car just make sure it's got full service history and that the correct oil has been used and all should be fine.

Cheers, hope I will!
I'll have a look in the handbook when I collect the car, it's got a full Audi service history except for this year which was at an Audi specialist. It's had long life oil the whole time (changed regularly according to the long life spec), but I'm thinking of changing it to a yearly oil change as I wasn't a fan of the long-life when I had my golf, but that was a diesel.
