Ive been looking through the forum plus other sites and just wondered if anyone had added extra security to their car?
I know that the advanced key poses a security risk and I haven't ordered that so that one less worry. I also have a disklok which Ive used on my last 4 cars and will take out gap insurance.
Has anyone installed blackjax? I think this would be the best option with gps blockers and keys being programmed to steal cars? or a second immobiliser if that's possible?
or trackstar advance?
I know they can take it by low loader but just trying to cover all other bases :)

thanks

I know what you're saying and did start thinking the same, but where does it end? Armed guards with dogs on your drive at night!!! :p

I'll just be getting GAP and using my current pro-lock, if they take I hope they take it for good!

Having advanced key places no more of a security risk than having a key whatsoever. I have no need for any extra security, don't let the paranoid pub talk fool you into thinking your car is less likely to be stolen because it has a key when statistics quite clearly show the majority of thefts are by having the key. If you feel your car is less at risk because it has a key then you've been lulled into into a false sense of security. The A3 isn't even a target for criminal gangs who operate in certain areas stealing other premium makes to order. However if a determined thief wants your car they will take it by any means they can and making it more difficult could just result in more damage or a greater risk of personal injury...

Got blackjax on the escort cosworth, you used to be able to have it fitted as a standalone, not sure if you can still get it without the full alarm system.

Gotta admire the denial :)

I dont understand why you think its denial?!? If someone has the £10k bit of kit to disable the alarm and program a key via OBD then they will have the £150 bit of kit to pick the ignition barrel in the same time as the OBD programmer is doing its thing!

I think that you are in denial by thinking that your car is more secure because you don't have advanced key!

Advanced key = easy peasy to steal and armed gangs don't need to come in to your home, they use the readily available gadgets and take it off the drive.

Standard key = Still easy to steal but armed gangs are much more likely to need the key, so will come into your home.

Got to ask whether advanced key being (allegedly) easier to take is a plus if they don't smash your front door down and just take it quietly.

As stated many many times on the other thread:

Keyless offers an additional risk of theft, over a conventional key.

As one specific example - you can perform a RF relay attack in a keyless system. You can't perform a RF relay attack on a conventional key.

By this very definition - keyless entry presents an additional method of stealing a vehicle.

I'd be devastated if my car got nicked, but I'm not gonna lose sleep over it. I have gap insurance so If it does get nicked I hope it gets written off or never found again. Don't think I could take it back after it being stolen.

Move into the country, if a car gets stolen round here its headline news.............

I've wondered what the process is with regards to having your car stolen keyless or not.

Some lowlife git takes the car, you claim against your insurance/GAP, I assume you are given a loan car from your insurance, (mine states 30 days is the longest they will loan the car) you either shop around or re-order the same car to the same spec, mine has a lot of options which means its a factory order. If the order time is the same as it was for this order thats 4 months... what do you do for the 3 months you don't have a car? I assume you would be out of pocket via either hiring a car, or purchasing a car for 1-2k to get you by?

I read on here somewhere that a members car was stolen and the replacement was a factory order. The dealer arranged for them to buy a used approved car and sell it back to the dealer for pretty much what they paid for it once the replacement arrived.

You'll only get a loan car until the insurance determines your car is never coming back and pay out as at that point the contract with them is terminated and they have nothing more to do with you.
It's then up to you what you do with regards to getting a new vehicle, if you want a brand new one then you have to wait for it. From the insurance point of view they are giving you the amount of money they deem necessary to go buy your car when it was stolen so it would be a second hand car you are buying ie available fairly quickly.

thanks for the replies guys I think ive made my mind up on what im going to do.

cheers

Mentioned this a while ago - chap had is S3 saloon stolen without keys in Braintree last year. A mate who works for Essex Police tells me it's been getting worse. If your car doesn't need a key to start it, good luck with that... GAP, keep keys safe and close, if you have a garage, use it and that's about all you can do, well and don't spec keyless ignition. As for being safe if you live in the countryside? Well, that's where I live and my car was nicked a few years back, along with five others on the same night in the same village. **** happens everywhere I'm, afraid. Not an experience I want to repeat, so now the car keys are locked away upstairs next to the Berettas :gun2:

Exactly :) The car can be replaced, a family member can't! If someone shows up with a gun just pass the keys.

It would make sense as it's another new car sales for them to chalk up. If they aren't helpful I'm sure a quote of "Fine I'll go to BMW then" will soon change their minds.
