8V S3 Tuning Thread

Wondering if anyone has had a DTUK box and recently swapped it for a REVO map?

What's your thoughts on the difference?

Is that the second S3 you've had, both of which had lower gains than the Golf 7R's ?

I do like the little hump in TQ, I think this will help with the "shove in the back" feeling, which is missing in the linear delivery of the stock car.

I've had a few one, and they all make very similar power and torque. The R is rarer at the moment as it's been in production for a shorter period and everyone is waiting for them. I have some due as soon as they are delivered, but they keep slipping....

The R was a manual, while all S3's have been DSG so we need to take this out of the equation. I ran the same R again not long ago, and it was making 370 odd so consistent. The owner absolutely abuses it, zero mechanical sympathy and a lot of miles, so maybe it's just loose!

Hey all, has anyone tried GAD Tuning? I saw a car of theres near where I live. Turns out they're quite local which may be a bonus.
Anyway, there website is huge and has a lot of information about tuning including what seem to be bold claims.
If anyone has experience of them it would be much appreciated.

Regards.

this is a little disappointing, there is a HUGE difference between the Golf R and the S3.

The owner of this car was disappointed with the torque of the tuning box which is why he came for the map, Now it certainly does shove you in the back!

This really tempts me but I'm in Scotland, is your S3 remap available with the device that lets the user remove / replace the map for dealer visits? If yes, am I right in thinking (from your comments in another thread) that you'd need to remove the ECU rather than the usual OBD flash?

What would you say was the minimum mileage before a remap?

Cheers

I would want 500 miles on the car before the car was driven at full power. Our map is now switchable - Eco mode gives standard power. The user flash device doesn't support the S3 ECU so that's a no go. We are 1 minute away from a main dealer, and many people are now getting their car serviced there - we can quickly flash before and after the visit.

Thanks Rick

I'd be looking to remap after around 1,500 miles, but would be using either Perth or Glasgow for dealer work, so not really practical in terms of flashing before & after. I much prefer the idea of a bespoke / custom map, but I'm not aware of anyone up here that does such a thing. :(

All depends on your mileage and how often you need it serviced I guess. I've driven to Perth a few times in a previous life as an instrumentation consultant - nice road over Forth to Carlisle :)

Yes, some really great roads around Perth. I'm up there a couple of times a month and the Audi dealership is across from our offices, so it'll be handy.

Do you reckon that you'll have a user flash device that would work with the S3 ECU at any time in the future?

Thanks for your responses, much appreciated.

I'm up in Scotland too, and would love a Bluefin type device that I could use myself to effectively flash the ECU from stock to map and back when I wanted ...

A custom map would be better, but I'd happily have a slightly more restrained map, if I could flash it on and off myself.

Are there any dealers up in Scotland yet that will do 8V remaps?

Simon at Sitech in Rosyth is a Revo dealer. I'm sure he'll do you a remap but you can't switch back to stock with any handheld yet that I am aware of, would require a trip to him to reflash to stock prior to dealer visit.

I've been having a search and Star Performance in Kirkaldy are VAG specialists that do custom maps and have a 4WD dyno. Have found some very good reviews, have a search online.

I've swapped a couple of emails with Jim there and will likely pop in to see him early March. He's mapped a few 8V S3s, and he tells me they tend to make 350 - 355 on his road.

I can vouch for Jim at Star Performance, i currently run a remap from him on my current S3 and when the new one arrives in March i will no doubt get in touch with him again about a remap. He uses (or did) OSCARLI maps and i cant fault it one bit.

That's for the superchips EPC 'box'. There isn't a bluefin for the S3 (yet anyway). I emailed them last week to see if they had an S3 bluefin remap that wasn't yet shown on their website, and got the following response:

Dear Stephen,

Thank you for your enquiry.

Unfortunately we are not currently able to modify this model by any of
our usual methods, we offer a tuning box that connects to the wiring
loom under the bonnet:

Anyone got Shark performance software for S3 or Golf R? Got an email today promoting it, Golf R made 350bhp and 475Nm. Looks like it was N8's Golf R based on the RR print out.

Can't see anything about it on the usual forums.

Wallace Performance in Aberdeen are Revo dealers, they mapped my S3 8P and my S3 8V that's on order is booked in for Revo Stage 1. Good bunch of lads and always had good service from them.

See those who have remapped their cars. Are you lads not worried about your warranties or are you confident there will be no issues? I emailed two Revo dealers today and one said you can return it back to truck stock and the other said they can't so stick with the DTUK box

One of my Customers Golf R Manual's has done 380 bhp, S3 is doing mid 350's. It could be a freak car though - time will tell.

Rick

now counting 50.000km on the S3 8V with the mtm.

it did 378hp and 455nm 1 dyno.

2nd dyno 374hp and 462nm.

pardon my ignorance, I have a dumb question.

Can the 6-speed DSG gearbox handle any extra power/torque from a re-map?

Aren't all S3's Quattro? Shouldn't this be tested on a 4WD dyno and why aren't the rear wheels moving?

Yes it can ! Only the DSG might slip at more than 500nm torque ...
For me the DSG tune comes availeble in the next few weeks.

After that I might go for the TTE 450+ turbo
