Hi Folks,

i'm after some advice. the problem is with my girlfriends 2.0 TDI, the fan has started coming on intermittently even when the car isn't up to temperature. My first thoughts would be that it is something to do with the thermostat.

anyone had problems with this or know what the problem might be?

Thanks

Yep I had the exact same problem. Well mine would spin up really really fast. Quite audible even inside the car.

We changed the Engine Temp. Sensor and it fixed the problem. Although there's another closely related problem (which i'm getting done tomorrow) which is the Thermostat Sensor.

I know this because we hooked it upto a diagnostics program and it gave a fault code. The fault code gives 2 possibilities:

1) Engine Temp. Sensor
2) Thermostat Sensor

Hope that helps

This could also be due to the aircon.
The aircon system will switch on the fans if the system pressure builds. This can happen in the first few seconds of startup.
Switch the aircon off, select econ and see if the fan kicks in?
