A3 2.0 TDI gearbox problem

A3 2.0 TDI gearbox problem in 4th and 6th gear. Sounds like a flapping noise when under acceleration. Car is fine in all other gears just in 4th and 6th where i have the problem. Im assuming the gearbox needs a refurb or replacement but any advice on this would be greatly appreciated

I guess it’s an HDV gearbox. If so, then it’s a common problem with these - play on the main shaft and main bearing. Very common problem. You would need a new bearing and rebuild the housing.
