Can I fit 18" wheels on an A3 3.2 (2004). Wanted to get 18" rims with a wider tyre than I currently have (225/45/17)

Can I fit 18"s easily?

What are the widest tyres I can fit without rubbing off anything?

Was thinking 265 / 45 /18 for the rear
And 245 / 45 / 18 for front

You can fit 18’, but I doubt you can go that wide, nor why you’d want to. Car would handle like ****.

You will get rubbing on the rears with anything over 225 width, especially if you're lowered.

Thanks for advice, will stick with 225's

When moving up to an 18" wheel, how do I know which offset will work?

The A3 stock alloys are typically ET54. The choice with be an ET45 which fills the guards nicely and doesn’t rub in the rear arch. You may get away with a ET43 but personality I’d look for a 45.

Thank you Samuel, have no clue about wheel ET's

The website below says its ET48 though?
How do I know which number to ask for?

Going to order from wheelbase website, can't afford to get sizes wrong

If you’re going for 18’s, keep between 45 and 56 and you’ll be fine. If you’re unsure post a pic here and someone will confirm.

As above, 18's will fit, stock is et54, having had 2 8P's I've had various wheels, the best fit is again as above et45, using a 225 40 tyre, no rubbing, fits nicely, can't go wrong tbh.

The B6/7, 5 spokes that are shared on the 8P, ronal's, are an example of great fitment as the ofset is 43 from that chassis, whereas 8P is 54 & sit too far inside the arches, but they suit the 8P perfectly.

On this same topic guys, what's the deal with the rim width. Have seen a few OEM wheels on eBay. They are the old TTS style Speedlines. Which I want, however they are 9J, have also seen some that are 8.5J.

What's the deal with this figure in terms of fitment. I have literally just figured out ET and how it effects wheel placement.

Now I'm stuck on the rim width !!

What will work, and what definitely won't.

My car isn't lowered yet. But I plan to get it lowered

8p is 8j.
9j is too wide. 8.5 will fit but rub like hell with a 235 tyre

Yep the 17"s on mine are 7.5. should be ok with 18" 7.5 or nah?

Sorry, I’ve said a couple of times above that you need 225/45/18. It’s meant to be 225/40/18 - sorry, my bad.

9” is too wide. 8.5” will likely hit the struts when lowered. 8” is fine, 7.5” is stock.

You will get rubbing on the rears with anything over 225 width, especially if you're lowered.
Interesting, I got 19"x235x35 (rims from mk6 Golf R rims) on mine and no rubbing

When ppl say rubbing, then mean over speed bumps or on hard cornering. It usually catches slightly on the arch liner (they can start to droop as the cars get older too).
I suspect you are OK with the Golf R alloys as the offset is ET50 which keeps the wheel tucked into the arch more. Almost all 19" aftermarket alloys are around ET42 to ET45 which make them fill the arch better (but are closer to the arch).

I have A4 Dtm alloys on my S3 8P ET44 which sit perfectly in line with wheel Arch , 18" 5x112 ET44 8J wide
