A3 TFSI S LINE SPECIAL EDITION 1.8 Auto (dec/09)

My car is on 77K miles and has only been driven once a week for the last 2 years. It was fully serviced and MOT’d a week ago. There was an MOT advisory on a minor oil leak and took their advice this wasn’t critical and would need an audi main dealer.

Today it started first time as normal but the gear indicator on the dash flashes in every gear and the car won’t move. Also the engine light remains on which went out before.

It’s a massive paperweight right now.

I’m hoping for a mobile engineer tomorrow. What are the most likely causes (and solutions) please?
Thank you.

Hi,

I haven’t done a diagnostics test today.
However after disconnecting and reconnecting the battery (I’m in IT) and the engine started as usual and after picking a gear it rocked forward/backwards slightly which it hadn’t done before. There was a slight burning smell. After switching the engine off and trying again, after a few attempts the gears engaged and the engine management light is no longer displayed. I drove for 6 miles through all the gears and everything is back to normal.

Has anyone seen this before? Obviously I’ll get it to the garage as planned for a diagnostic test and check but maybe it’s not as bad the mechatronic unit dead/dying?

Thanks for your help.

When was the last time the dsg was serviced?
At 77k it should be due it’s second one.

It had a full service and MOT last week. But it all honesty not at Audi or an Audi specialist, so it’s unlikely to be the specific gear box service needed. I’m on 77k miles. I’ll be taking it to the specialist garage next week. Maybe I’ll need a DSG service as mentioned rather than a mechatronic unit replacement?
