I hope I'm posting in the right place (if not, please direct me to a better place to post).

We have a 2013 A4, manual transmission, driven by a very experienced driver. Clutch broke with no warning.. wasn't slipping at all in days leading up sudden failure. 16,000 miles on the car

Has anyone heard of this being a problem before? We're having trouble stomaching $3000+ for something that doesn't strike us as user error

Any feedback helpful. Thanks!

Theres no way that could be described as normal wear and tear, I would expect the dealers to deal with that and replace it. Are the saying the driver has been riding the clutch or abusing it in some way. Sounds like some kind of manufacturing defect to me.

Karl.

As above no way this could be driver error, can't see how this could happen though unless you were really unlucky and the car somehow passed tests it should of failed. Audi should definitely pay especially with the mileage and age.

More to the point, who's making up the figures for a replacement clutch? $3000 plus is a joke.

Same problem with me. Mine went exactly likes yours at 27000 miles on a 11 reg.
Audi quoted me £1900 and Audi UK would put a contribution towards it of £900 so i took it to my mates garage instead who did the Clutch & Flywheel all in genuine Audi parts £800.

Is that just unlucky or is it all part of the Audi process where it needs to be changed eventually?
If Audi quoted £1900 and Audi UK would put a contribution towards it of £900, wouldn't it of been £1000? £200 difference?

Audi would of at least put some of guarantee on it if something was to go wrong again?

Labour prices are a god damn joke. Gorgeous cars, utter failure of service

Sorry, £1000 contribution they would put towards it costing me £900
But my mate has a specialist transmission and clutch garage and i would rather give him £800 and he used all the genuine Audi parts etc.. and i got a 2 year warranty so it weren't too bad.

Ive had nothing but terrible service with this Audi and the wife's Audi i have just changed. I agree most cars will have a problem sometime but if the manufacture deals with it and repairs it then its fine. If they dont repair it when they should then you are put off by them.

Shouldn't Audi dealer be fixing this via Warranty, as the cars only a year old?

Thats what i thought when mine were being done but apparently its a "Wear & Tear item"

This was our 4th Audi; 2nd with a manual. No service problems before.

Yes a clutch is a wear and tear item; but they are supposed to wear not blow like the Space Shuttle. The car was in for service 500 miles prior; granted they just drove it on the lot but no one mentioned your clutch is slipping. It is leased; so fixing at the dealer is the only way to keep them from claiming other damage. Besides the fact that we'd have to flat bed it around for estimates.

Having them start the work but going to keep going further with corporate.

A clutch is a wear and tear item but 16K miles is not a reasonable amount of miles for a clutch to last. If it had done 60 or 70K then thats a different story but at 16K there is some kind of issue either with the clutch itself or something has leaked oil / fluid on the clutch and it is slipping.

Karl.

hey folks,
so to my horror I experienced this failure 800 miles after buying a used 2012 A4 with 33k miles. Fortunately for me the shop where I purchased are stand up guys and are replacing clutch, flywheel, etc. They are eating the cost after they contacted the local Audi shop and were turned down for warranty repair. My question is what are your experiences after getting the faulty equipment replaced? I’ve read in some posts a few folks experience this as early as 1600 – 4500 miles. Thanks in advance.

My father has is 2012 a4 from new. Went into Audi on December 2014 with 20k miles on it and clutxh judder on cold mornings.

They replaced clutch, flywheel and release bearing under warranty as car juddered on cold morning when Audi tech took car to test it. All covered under warranty.

I have the printout here if anyone needs it for warranty claim to help them.

Hi,
My problem isn't quite the same tho just as annoying, I've an 11 plate 2.0 tdi, the clutch slips intermittently, it may go a week or a month or twice in 5 minutes, there is no pattern or contributing factors, this has been going on for 15 months, it's been back to the main dealer twice who can't find a fault, I'm sure they think I'm imagining it, I've just returned home from Audi where I paid £60 for them to diagnose the fault, which they can't because it's intermittent, they will remove the gearbox at a cost of £410 and have a look to see if the clutch is worn but after 15 months and 15.5k miles if the clutch was worn it would have packed in by now
This fault started at under 30k mikes and we're now on 44.5k miles
This car was still under warranty when the issue started but unless I cough up the money Audi don't want to know, the issue I have is should I pay to remove the gearbox and inspect the clutch and all Is well I'm £410 out of pocket and no father forward

Why didn't they offer to remove the gearbox when it was still under warranty, good old Audi, we can't find the fault. Audi, all Audi dealers know of clutch/flywheel issues on b8's, but some still refuse to fix it!!! :audibash:

Think I'd be on to Audi UK to see if I got any joy there, nothing to lose mate.
