Hi All,

Needing a bit of input on deciding between the two, I've discounted the 35 TFSI as I presume 150ps in a car that big will feel a touch sluggish for me.

Had a deal back on the 45 TFSI Quattro OTR £49,940 - offer £42,908 (15% off) and then another £3,500 deposit contribution. Taking it down to £39,008.

Assuming the same percentage discount with the 40 TFSI, same spec OTR £44,325 - 15% off = £37,676 with a £3,500 contribution that would then be £34,176.

So really I'm looking for opinions if the extra 55ps and Quattro is worth paying the extra £5k + the additional running costs (eg services, pads, tyres, fuel)?

Only way you'd know with power is to test drive both (boring answer I know).

I also know people on here said the non quattro A5 seems to wear through front tyres quite quickly. So worth considering that as well.

Assuming both are also the same spec? £5k seems quite a difference in my opinion, so all depends on how the car drives really.

Yep both same spec, Black Edition, S tronic, Mythos Black, Matrix Lights, Comfort & Sound Pack, Technology Pack, Extended LED Interior Lighting.

That's handy to know about the tyres.

My only reluctance with test drives is that you can't really gauge much on the little preplanned routes they take you on. Might see if they can lend me one as a courtesy car next time I'm having work done at the dealer.

If they want the sale explain that, should be able to give you an extended drive, good luck mate

I have mine tuned to similar specs to the 45tfsi, higher torque at 400Nm though. There is a definite difference but that could be down to the manner in which the tuning box, only £400, has changed how the engine is delivering the power. It does just waft along and the acceleration is there but through the front wheels, if I am being silly, I can spin up the front tyres at 60 though shouldn't be an issue with a quattro.

First off it's a decent offer, the site I use shows your spec including Audi's bit:
Offer

How are you looking to buy cash or PCP? with PCP I'd say the quattro and bigger engine will be about £115 per month more!

I have the 190bhp s-line with s-tronic and it's quick enough and I came from an S3! You do get a bit of front wheel spin until you get used to the car, but other than that I don't have a problem with it.
I do miss the quattro at times, mainly in the wet at lights or at a junction when I want to get away quickly...boot it and gone!

I'd also add the flat bottom steering wheel for £100, gives you a bit more leg room...I'm over 6ft so very handy for me....or is that standard on the BE???

Yeah Flat bottom is standard spec on the BE.

I've just spoken to the dealer and apparently production has ceased for the current A5 and they have no Black edition 45 TFSI in stock, and the only Black edition Mythos black car is a diesel and has neither of the option packs. So I'm a bit stumped.

That's good to know that the 190bhp on is still quick enough then, I'm coming from a slower car than an S3 so hopefully it will feel even better for me.

I'm looking to go down the PCP route purely for the deposit contribution although I will be putting down a fairly chunky deposit to drop the monthlies. But if there's nothing decent in stock anywhere it may be a case of looking at approved used instead

Why has production ceased? If it's for the face lift they should still be able to order you one, they're not going to have the workforce sitting around doing nothing.
Yeah the 190 is a good engine tbh, I'm mainly in and around town with a bit of 40 mph and 70 mph on the way to work, so it does the job.

This is what the dealer said to me

"Hi Jonnie,

We are currently unable to factory order any A5 Models as the production has been temporarily ceased while Model Year 2020 changes are taking place.

I have attached a list of available stock vehicles, please let me know if there is one of interest and I will provide you with a finance quotation and the full specification.

Kind Regards,

--"

"***Please note the following models are currently not available for Forward Factory orders due to paused production at Audi***
A3
A4
A5
A7
A8
Q7
TT Roadster

However as -- are Audi UK’s largest partner, we do have an extensive range of New car stock available and we will do our best to match your configuration."

Although with the revisions done to the A4 I'm not entirely confident the A5 will look any better come the new model year

Model change perhaps...

Well they must do things completely different at Audi then! I work in a car factory (23 years) and when there is a face lift or model change it's not just a case of stop building the current one and don't let people order the new one! You slowly introduce the new car to get people used to building it and to make sure all the robots are programmed correctly and the new parts fit! 1-2 a day come down the lines, then 5-6 per day then 1 per hour and so on and so on.

We are currently introducing a FL model at the moment, we've been getting them coming down at about 10 per week, but we're still build the current/old model. I'd love to take a video or pictures so people can see what goes on...but I'd be sacked lol and with on 7 years until I hit 55 and retire I'm not taking the chance :)

It seems a strange way for them to do things, a lot of people will say "OK I can't order an A5 so I'll go over to BMW and order a 4 series".

I must admit I thought it was pretty strange as well. Although it's now pushed me to look at approved used S5s instead :whistle2:

I think I'm going to, £39k for a new 45 TFSI Quattro vs ~£33k for a 2018 S5 with less than 10k miles.

Now the hunt begins for one in a decent spec

Just be aware that the APR% on a used one is wayyy higher if you are looking at that route. Not sure if other companies can do better rates?!?!

Give oracle finance a go, they connect you with brokers who can offer more competitive rates for APR, deposits etc.

Found the car and agreed a deal on price etc, a 3rd party company can finance the balance at 5.75%. (Relatively chunky deposit so it’s not that bad in terms of interest over all)

The guy at Audi is seeing if they can beat it as their standard deal is 7.9%.

That's not too bad then ;) Ask if it's in the agreement that the car has to be serviced at a main dealership! Obviously an independant is way cheaper as long as you are allowed! It's nothing to do with the warranty side, it's the 'if you hand it back' side, as they could say it's worth less as it not a full Audi history....just cover your ***!

Spoken to Admiral and they said they don’t care where I get it serviced so I’ve gone with them.

Now I just have to sit on my hands until it arrives on the 20th :whistle2:

Me being a paranoid person and not trusting what they say and do! :p I'd send them an email asking them the same question and then keep the reply! Making sure I stated "Am I ok to get it serviced at an independent audi specialist, even if I intend to hand the car back at the end and not keep it?" ;)

I sent the salesperson an email and made sure I said to keep my deals separate when I changed from the S3-A5 and stated "As I may sell the 3 privately", their faces when they tried to give me a final price for the S3 and I said "Oh I've sold that privately, I did say I may" :D

If everyone, especially those looking at a contract with a company, would read their T&C or FAQ'S

Well at the time I said to him to ask the question #18, I didn't know who he was doing his deal with, so I couldn't see his T&C's!
It was a friendly reminder, as things can easily be overlooked when the excitement of a new car is around and even if you do have the T&C's at hand, you don't always think about checking certain things until someone reminds you! It's better to be safe than sorry isn't it?

Absolutely. There are so many things to check, having never financed a car before that wasn't something that even crossed my mind. Had you not said something I would have been blissfully unaware until the first service arrived.

I genuinely appreciate it a lot.

I have no issues with your post and you were being extremely helpful. However it is unbelievable how many enter into a contract without reading the small print then wonder why it all goes wrong.
Thus the purpose of my post was to point out everyone should read all the terms and conditions and frequently asked questions to ensure they aren't trapped in to a negative deal.
I meant no offence to anyone...

OK mate no worries, that's the problem with forums! Sometimes things that are written down can be read/taken the wrong way ;)

Thank you! At one point I had the parasol up because the sun was drying out the snow foam before I could even get to it. I might have to invest in a gazebo
