A5 Black Edition Plus

Paulchat007, totally agree with you on the rotors, I think I'll like the new wheels but they don't look anything like they did on the Audi configurator. If my build date wasn't already confirmed I'd probably play it safe and change back to the rotors....a lot easier to clean :thumbs up:

Vervdc love your car in red, my current BE is red, did order a new red one but cancelled it a week later when the BE+ came out with Sepang blue as a colour option, going to miss the red but love Sepang blue.

The trouble with rotors is that they are getting so common now there "same old" l think Audi should have at least offered the BE+ With either the alloys found on the Audi TT amplified version with black rotors (to go with the black trim) and not titanium alloys
Image
At least the new Black alloys are only fitted to the A5 ED+ and not the A4 ED+ meaning they won't be so common as previous wheels anyway the NEW "Y" alloys are rather growing on me and apparently my Audi dealer said there quite a head turner in the flesh.

I was thinking of asking for the black rotors myself but think I'll stick with the original Black Y spoke alloys.

Roughly how long does it take once the car has been built to arrive at the dealership? I'm on a week 6 build week and getting excited!!

Mine is supposed to build week build 8 and is due into the dealership on March 23rd it then takes a couple of days to do the paperwork (so I've been told) etc then it's yours!

I would imagine yours is mid Feb so should arrive beginning of March. But don't quote me on that!

Thanks Blackstud. This waiting is rubbish!! At least I already have a BE A5, otherwise it would be a nightmare!

Can't wait to have S-tronic (I'm getting old!) and to have Quattro back in my life! The A5 feels more planted as a Quattro imo and with the heavily offset foot pedals I'm looking forward to saying good bye to my manual, although don't get me wrong I still love it, and it's only just coming to life with 28k on the clock!

My current fwd manual 2.0tdi A5 has a decent spec being an ex demonstrator but I've a few new toys to look forward to:
Quattro
S-tronic
Memory seats
Folding mirrors
Drive select
Dynamic steering
Damper control
Detacheable tow bar (to carry the MTB)

Going to miss the £30/yr car tax I currently pay and the 47-52mpg I can regularly get out of it. Hoping the mpg on the Quattro won't be too much lower once it's run in!

Hi Agric04

You have a nice spec.....

I have the same spec as you apart from the towbar and Dynamic stearing and Damper control. I have also added Audi hill stop/start and Led interior light pack wrapped up in Mythos black like you the waiting is hard to bare!

Agree 'black stud' the offer of the black rotors would have been nice to compliment the trim!:encouragement:
But I'm sure in true audi style nothing will be exclusive for long and the gloss blacks will be showing up on s lines across the board. Look a ****** to clean, I expect the detailing enthusiasts amongst us will be taking them off once a month to clean behind!
Can't wait to see more pictures posted!

ah forgot, I also have hill hold.

I can't believe the interior light pack is an option on these, or any Audi! Thankfully I've got it on my current BE and on the new one, I wouldn't want one without it, but it's an option easily overlooked!

Paulchat007 That's the only thing that puts me of aswell. The cleaning of them, looks like I might have to hold onto my old tooth brush ha ha

Thanks Agric04 - yeah the Sepang Blue was very tempting, especially because of its exclusivity. I've just always loved how the black compliments the red on the BE models, and with even more black bits on the + I was sold! Please do post pics once you've taken delivery. BTW - great spec!

Blackstud, am I going mad or did you post pictures of a Mythos Black BE+ yesterday? Swore I saw it and then it disappeared??

On another note, the wheel arch gap I have at the moment is terrible. It makes the wheels look smaller than they are, and the car not look as sporty. Almost looks like its standing on stilts a bit! Its currently got the Sports suspension (second time now I have forgotten to choose the optional S-Line suspension). So to rectify (as I did on my A4 BE) I've ordered a set of Eibach Pro Kit's which are due to land tomorrow, so will have them fitted in the next week or two - Ill post some comparisons for others if anyone is interested. Based on having them done to my A4, it didn't make the ride any harsher (to me) and transformed the look of the car. To me it comes out looking OEM, and how it should have come from factory. Did everyone else who has ordered a BE+ order with the S-Line suspension or kept them as Sport?

Hi vervdc, I kept mine as sport. I think the arch gap on your car looks perfect as is. My wife will be mainly driving the car and so comfort was a must on her part when we discussed the ride height options. It's only a 10mm difference between sport and sline (I think if correct?)

Hi Paulchat, ah ok - yes speaking with the sales guy I believe that the sport is by far the most common choice due to mix of aesthetics and comfort. They even went as far as recommending against the S-Line suspension when I ordered my wife's A3 S-Line a couple weeks ago, however she was happy to have it lower after seeing one in the show room. She knew how my A4 felt with the Pro-Kit springs and it didn't phase her. That being said she won't be driving mine anyway! Yes I think its 10mm lower, however as someone else had mentioned on this forum a while back, the figures Audi quote aren't really correct in reality. Someone actually measured the real difference in lowering between SE, Sport and S-Line and the drops weren't as much as quoted. That being said, the Eibach Pro-Kit's quoted drops were spot on. If you take a look at the Eibach S5 project car which uses the Pro-Kit (below), you'll get an idea of what it brings the car down to. I think everyone will have their own preference on ride height, however to me this looks perfect with equal gap around the wheel arch which I love!

Not sure I should admit to this on here but I actually swapped my shocks and springs out from the S-line suspension to SE on my current fwd 2.0tdi BE!!!! It's the first car that I've found too hard a ride! Was surprised because I had been driving my parents Quattro S-tronic version for about a month before hand, I can only think the extra weight of the Quattro and S-tronic transmission helped dampen the ride.....hoping the damper control on the new one will give me the best of all worlds!

Hi vervdc

Yes I did post a black ed+ until I realised it was the older shape with the black wheels and the raised lip spoiler on the boot plus the side skirt on a 64 plate. It must have been one of the last shape BE and they stuck the new alloys and spoiler on. The front end didnt have the same nose as yours it was like the one in the photo I posted, I thought I'd better remove it as it would confuse those who were looking to order a black BE+

Perhaps I should have left it for people to spot the difference!

These BE+ must be getting common! Driving from Stamford to Newbury this morning and I realised I was sat behind one exactly the same as I've ordered stuck in traffic near Oxford.....sure the guy must have thought I was driving like a tit as I dived into the lane alongside him to try and see his gloss black alloys!! Still thinking I like my rotors more, doh!!!

Trust me they will grow on you......

As nice as the rotors are, there to common....

Blackstud, that makes sense, thanks for clearing that up! Quite cheeky of them to try mimic the + model! Could have fooled someone unsuspecting. But well spotted, I didn't get a chance to look properly myself.

And agric04 re. the SE suspension, really interesting! Everyone has their own tolerances for ride feel, and some prefer the more comfortable ride, nothing wrong with that! I guess being 28 I prefer the sportier feel of stiffer suspension, and really don't mind the bumps on our terrible roads here! I sometimes just cringe hitting a pothole feeling really sorry for the car!! Also interesting to hear that the Quattro and auto change the feel so much.

I agree with blackstud on the wheels, I originally wanted the rotors (had them on my A4 BE and even thought of swopping them before I traded in) but now I wouldn't want anything else. It's the first thing everyone has complimented me on when first seeing my car (honestly) so must look good!!

You did the right thing with the wheels, how you getting on with the car, I bet you turn a few heads? Here's that picture!

Check out the centre lower lip it's fixed to the lower valence yours is a separate lip......in the middle which looks meaner

Haha yes, particularly of other Audi drivers! I guess they are wondering what kind of hybrid it is, RS bits, black bits and different wheels - probably think I've hacked something together!

Well, I find that picture really interesting. Thats not the older bumper, I think it may be the new one - although as you mention the lower valance is odd. Notice the air intakes, they don't have the "lip" that typically surrounds the older intakes. Plus the intakes are larger, and protrude like mine does. Perhaps the angle of the picture, and the car being black makes it difficult to see properly. But very sure that's not the old bumper. I also find it odd that it has an Approved plate on, has someone driven it around for a week and handed it back?! All I can think is that they stuck that plate on temporarily? Must say it does look amazing in Mythos Black!!

It does look lovely but, My God, Look at the arch gap! I'm sure it being black doesn't help but it looks like it's in the sky!

Haha, couldn't agree more!! Exactly why I am just about to take delivery of a set of Eibach Pro-Kit Springs - due to be fitted next Friday. Can't wait!! Tempted to throw on a set of spacers too, 20mm at the back and 15 at the front. The rear wheels are so far buried within the arch you can barley see them when looking down the side of the car.

Ahh you won't regret it. I took delivery of my A5 and one of the first things I did to mine was fit a set of KW Street comfort coilovers. People thought I was mad buying a new Audi, and then spending that amount to lower it.

I'm just on the verge of purchasing some spacers now, also thinking 20mm rear and 15mm front but will have to see how close the fit is as I don't want any scrubbing.

Very nice!! And I know exactly what you mean, I bought a new A4 BE last year and straight away wanted to lower it to a more sporty stance (to look like it should from factory, not slammed or anything) and it took calling around 5 places before someone would even consider installing the springs. None of them wanted to touch it being so new, and said that they didn't want to get in trouble if something went wrong and I needed to claim for something under Audi's warranty. Ridiculous, but managed to find an Audi specialist just around the corner from me who did it and it completely transformed the look of the car. So anxious to have the same done on the A5, earliest I could book it was next Friday.

Well having done a great deal of researching on spacers for the A5, with the standard 19" wheels you could go as wide as 20FR/25R without scrubbing. Most tend to prefer the look of the 25R however it's really borderline for me, people disagree whether it protrudes from the arch or not which to me looks too much. That being said, I haven't seen a single person mention scrubbing at those widths, all lowered (most on H&R OE Sports which are pretty low). A lot of people tend to go for the 15FR/20R as its the safest compromise between getting the stance and not worrying about protruding beyond the arch. It sits just inside the arch, and looks great IMO. I may start with 20mm at the back, and then add the 15's at the front later.

That's definitely not the bumper you have on yours, zoom in and take a closer look at the bottom centre lip, on yours the centre black lip is separate from the lower valence on the black one it flows of into the bottom lalance. It's different.

On the audi website it showed a 64 plate on it but when I saved the image it had gone strange!!

Anyone got a pic to share of the alloy pedals on the BE+ S-stronic, not seen them in the flesh yet and not sure if it's just the pedals or if the foot rest is also blinged up? I'm assuming just the pedals.

Blackstud, yes does look different to mine. Mmm, strange, almost like a hybrid bumper of old and new!!

I was very jealous when I read about the s-tronic pedals in the brochure, the manual comes with the old boring black rubber ones! Sure they will look fantastic. Really surprised at how many RS bits they've added to the car, bet RS owners can't be pleased!!

I'm currently in an S3 Sportback after my previous black edition A5. After messing on the configurator today I'm sorely tempted with a Sepang BE coupe again but will have to be manual, petrol and Quattro. Any idea on the overall order time guys?

Thanks Blackstud for sharing the pic. I notice in that pic the steering wheel has alloy flappy paddles like fitted to an S5, rather than the all plastic ones normally fitted, is that an S5 steering wheel? If you tell me that's how they are on a BE+ steering wheel I might get very excited!!

No it's Black edition plus steering wheel:yes:

I got the picture from a dealer that has just had one come in and this was one of the shots of the interior so I hope it's all true, it gets better every day.........

Awesome, roll on March :jump:. I really hope it's true, hope they have the same sort of weight and feel as the S5 ones.

Dragon, you're looking at roughly 2 months (perhaps a bit more)
