Some very 'meh' reviews there. Interior and quality predictable praised, but the driving experience seems to have a consensus view of being poor.

Can't be that bad surely.

Which ones are you reading? The latest S5 Sportback review by EVO was pretty good I thought. I find that you have to read between the lines with car journos since they tend to fit into one of two camps...the 'evos' or the 'what cars'. The evos have certain default views which include that manuals are better than autos, rear wheel drive is best, and makes a real 'drivers car' etc etc. They also have a default view of Audis, which is nice interior, goes quick but no driving feel, not enough fun, but yeah it's pretty good and then recommends the beemer or merc (with 1980's interior or chintzy respectively). The whatcar journo always recommends the smallest diesel available in the smallest wheels since this is the sensible choice for economy and ride and therefore can safely be ignored unless you need something specific for them. So as long as you know this you can still glean some usefulness from the reviews

^^^^ not forgetting that a BMW is always the drivers car isn't it? They always forget that 99.9%** of drivers will never drive a car to its limits or care about that. They want smiles in everyday driving and for the cabin to be a great place to be.

The A/S5 appears to be less value for money vs say the BMW models as the finance on the latter is cheap as chips as it is due a facelift/re-model.

** OK I exaggerate- 99.0%
