Hi Folks, quick question about the battery in my 2007 2.0 Tdi. Looks like the battery is needing replaced but I have seen conflicting reports about whether the new battery needs some coding or not? Do you know if I can just swap it out without any problems? Thanks

Hi!
Yes. It is need. It is easy with vag-com.
Procedure:
[Select] [61 - Battery Regulation] [Coding - 07] Use the pull down menu to select the battery (slave) listed as #1.
[Battery Coding] Enter the new Battery Part Number (10 or 11 digits).
Enter the new Battery Serial Number (10 digits).
Select the new Battery Vendor. [OK] [Do it!]
[Close Controller, Go Back - 06] .

If your new battery isn't original, it doesn't have code but you can enter other code of old battery or code partner's batery.
What specifications does your batery have?
I can find a code for you.

Hi Rav thanks for the info - the battery that is currently in the car is a Varta 95Ah 450 A DIN 760. Do you know what happens if the coding is not done? Does it create problems or do you just lose the extra battery regulation features?

It is for the car recognize the new battery.
The code has be of a batery of same carecteristicas. The unit power management has to know the batery it has.
If it doesn't encode it doesn't know than the batery is new.
