An AdBlue system fault appeared in the DIS on my 3 month old A6
20150218 082210

I called my Audi Centre who sent out Audi Assist. Their diagnostic suggested "inefficient adblue system". The car has only done 1850 miles and has now been taken to an Audi Centre. They have changed the AdBlue sensor, with no success. Audi Technical UK have said they are not familiar with the error message!
Has anyone else had this happen?

nice car....your to bleeding edge of technology am still rocking a 2008 lol

Thanks, in the end they took for a 70 mile "regenerative test drive" and the light has stayed off ever since.
2008 is not that old ☺

First gen B8 S Line.

Glad you got it sorted, warranty holds those dealers on the straight and narrow

Hi, DaveW.

I have exactly the same fault on my Q5. Did you get it fixed?

The same fault popped up on mine today. I've not used it much recently due to the virus and it's been sat still for a few days while the temp has been dropping. Got it booked in for a diagnostic tomorrow, I'll report back with what they find.

Tempted to take it for a long spin to see if it's the standing still that's causing a problem! Hoping for a cheap fix, I've read some nightmare stories online! A bit like looking up symptoms when you're feeling poorly, just a bad idea.....

Update, in a nut shell - Warning has gone at no cost.

Fortunately I know a garage who are Audi/BMW specialists, I popped it round and he cleared the warning on the dash. Restarted the car, warning came back. He rescanned it but couldn't find any warnings or issues despite the dashboard still showing the alert. He fiddled about rescanning and restarting the car. Then gave the ad-blue tank a couple of knocks with a mallet (technical fix) and he heard the pump kicking in!

Couple of more scans and restarts of the engine, the fault was still there on the dashboard.

He suggested it may need a software update and maybe a new ad-blue tank, but suggested I give it a good run first. Went on the motorway and after 7.8 miles exactly, the alert on the dash disappeared!

Pulled over at a services and stopped the engine, locked the car up and waited a minute or two, started the car, no fault! Went to the supermarket and did the same, came back to the car, no fault! Went home and left it for a few hours, popped to top up with fuel, still no error, amazing!

Just got back from giving it a good run into North Yorkshire and back again for the weekend, still no reoccurrence of the fault.

I'm driving an Audi A6 2014 S-line, Ultra Black edition with 71k on the clock. I did refill the ad-blue a week or two ago (which I've noticed quite a few people reporting this problem have also done before getting this).

My recommendation is not to run to Audi straight away, but take it to an independent for a once over. My experience with Audi is that they tend to shotgun and problem by just replacing the part immediately.

For example my washer liquid was leaking and they quoted me £600 to fix, but I knew it just needed a new jubilee clip to hold the pipe together.... I fix that myself for £1.37 and I am by any means a mechanic. Audi didn't even look and were going to charge £60 for a troubleshooting fee.

Correcting a typo:

"For example my washer liquid was leaking and they quoted me £600 to fix, but I knew it just needed a new jubilee clip to hold the pipe together.... I fixed that myself for £1.37 and I am by NO means a mechanic. Audi didn't even look and were going to charge £60 for a troubleshooting fee."

Refilled my AdBlue with 800 miles to go and have got the same fault pop up around 100 miles after, car driven for another 100 mile motorway run and the issue is still there.

I’m not sure if there are any other options than Audi, OBDeleven doesn’t seem to be picking much up apart from a nox sensor fault which doesn’t change anything when cleared., If it is a software fix, Audi are probably the only ones that can do it.

Any recommendations on the way forward, I’m in the south east for reference.

Had similar issues on Stage 5 industrial engines at work. In each case the pump had stopped working due to crystallisation of the AdBlue. Further investigation proved the AdBlue hadn't been stored correctly and was out of date. AdBlue only has a limited shelf life.

Hmm I was filling from a pump in BP, wonder if it could be less common station with older fluids. Desperately looking for the receipt that I've chucked somewhere....

So, the car is with local Audi for the diagnosis, 1h in which they charge the initial diagnosis for at £98, they send me a video with tyre & visual checks saying there is a problem with the Adblue system, it requires further investigation at £540

I've asked for a breakdown of what they've done so far, all was very wishy washy over the phone.

Anyone experienced this before? Are they pulling my leg??

I'd pull the car and take it to an independant specialist. Main stealers are just that.

Collected just now, they'll compile a report but have not charge me for the diagnosis on this occasion. Will keep this updated thread updated...

So what was the update?

So what was the update?
Took it to a local independent, they applied an adblue update to the latest software and topped up the system.

No issues ever since.

Audi wanted to charge an arm and a leg to take everything apart after the initial 1h of diagnosis, most of which they spent checking tyres etc rather than actually working on diagnosing the problem...

I'm having the same issue
Are you able to share details of the independent you went to?
