Hi guys can anyone tell me if a tt ko4 001 will fit straight onto my 1.8t AGU? I'm wanting to change the turbo, and are the turbo's easy to change yourself on these cars?

Also can you tell me some good modding parts to get to

Thanks Simon

No it won't fit straight on... there are a fair few threads here now detailign whats required mate... start with Prawns track car thread as he has done all this on his AGU...

I would brace youself though as no turbo upgrade is as simple as bolting another on...

Ok.. with it now... not a turbo part number I am familiar with... so its a funny hybrid thats in between a K03s and a proper K04... (much like the 'k04' *chuckle* they fitted to the A4's) may as well go for a K03 hybrid and get proper K04 power out of it.. you will still need a VR6 maf housing and bigger injectors with a custom map... :)

Welcome to mastermind...... Tufftys chosen subject?

Audi turbo setups

Because he's a turbo whore! lol

You knowledge overwhelms me but also reminds me How sad we are, I can't remember my partners birthday but I can tell you vtec kick in revs on nearly every ohc Honda lol

I just don't get these cars tbh, everything seems so much hassle to change one thing, my last car was so much easier to mod than these Audi's and better output's too

Audi are similar to apple........ It is a niche Market that a certain type of person loves and swears by, because of this hold the brand seems to have over it's customer accessories and such alike seem expensive!

I have had previously jap cars and recently a focus st 225 and agree with you on your last statement. Output on audis cost a lot in general.

Ben no I haven't done anything yet I was told by the guy I bought it off that it was chipped and as quick as an s3 but it doesn't feel quick..not to me anyway as s3 is 200bhp+ my last car was a lancia delta integrale 8 valve which was much quicker than my Audi a3 1.8 t, my lancia was 210+ but was a rocket

ive got the same engine as yours and i know for a fact i am way off the speed of an s3 even a 210bhp s3 kills me.
what other mods have you got? ive got a silicone TIP, jetex cone and a REVO remap and im probably sitting at 180-190 max. 200+ you will be looking at a ko3s turbo. if you wanna find out if yours is mapped or not we can have a duel. on a private test track of course. also your lancia would have been alot lighter, these cars are heavy in stock form compared to other marques.

Ben I'm just taking that my car is standard, as I have no cone filter and I put the standard dv back on the other day, I know it's had a power flow exhaust on it at some stage but not on when I bought it, it's been lowered on h&r springs standard shocks tho, pulls to the left like a ***** so need to get tracking done, if you live in redhill or near where would the best place be to take it for that, and other stuff too

The 20v is one of the most tunable engines there is and very large power outputs can be had... in excess of 350hp per ltr.... its not particularly difficult to get power out the engine at all but you have to change a few things as you can't pikey tune VAGs in the same way as other cars... the turbo's are pretty small out the box on the 150/180 models and so peak torque is very low down... cars like scoobys etc has slightly bigger turbos and sustain torque/power a bit better (2ltrs vs 1.8ltrs too in most of the cited examples which makes quite a difference too)

The A3 is a heavier car than most people think and coupled with a little turbo (and the K03 is a little turbo) it will make the car seem slower..

Fuelling wise A3's run out of fuel around the 230hp mark (as a safe margin) so for a turbo capable of more (K03 hybrids and K04 swaps are 260 - 280hp typically with supporting mods) you will need larger injectors... you will also need a larger MAF housing so the calibration of the airflow measured by the ECU can be seen else it will go blind...

Pays yer money and takes yer choice but the 20v is a ****** good engine... :)

It is a fantastic engine, which makes me wonder why they reverted back to 4v per cylinder for the 8P - was that for emission reasons? I hate the fact I pay more road tax than my mate in his 8P.

Oh, and whilst I'm on the subject, how does it work being 5v per cyl - are 2 valves exhaust out and 3 in, or is it the other way round?

As per tuftys post above, the 20vt isn't a difficult engine to tune, it's simple as anything.

Spend a bit of time doing some research, and it'll soon all click into place,

as a quick guide:

stock ko3 turbo - 190bhp

ko3S turbo from a later car - 220bhp

Hybrid ko3 or ko4 turbo from an S3 - 280bhp

Hybrid ko4 -320bhp

Each stage has a different level of supporting mods required, with the cost increasing at each stage.

Beyond those levels, a big turbo would be required, and I imagine the cost of that would be similar whatever car you had, integrale, S3, 200Sx, whatever....

Be patient with it and stick around, and you'll pick it up very quickly

Don't get me wrong I like my car I would just like to get 200bhp and bit more boost, I personal feel they are a bit under powered from factory, but I don't want to change loads of parts to get a small ish power gain, and only being in my 20's ,obey has a bit to do with it but my Audi isn't my main vehicle it only get used of a weekend, just try to get info on what route to go down and where to start with in the mod's

TFSI lost a valve so they could fit high pressure direct to cylinder injection... FSI is Fuel Stratified Injection... it is said to be far more fuel efficient and lower on emissions hence the main reson for using it... interesting articles here..

Stratified charge engine - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

20v engines (5v per cylinder) are 3 inlet 2 exhaust... very high efficiency and like to rev... especially if large port like the AGU... (with a suitable turbo of course ;P)

Here's one I made earlier :D

For me, and I appreciate what k03/s lads have done, just buy an s3! Your at 220 bhp from start. £1500 and hard work later your at 280 bhp ........ That = simples

Strip it out completely and now you are talking

But look at people's threads on here I have to say it's addictive tuning

You tune engine, then you want handling, and braking and then a credit card and then a bank loan!

You won't get 200hp on a K03... you need a K03s with which you won't need to change any parts such as injectors, MAF's etc... you will need to have the map tweaked as the ECU (being completely driven by airflow) will limit boost on the higher flowing K03s..

You can get on average 210-220hp from a decent K03s and with supporting mods keep the power there too...

Im on the fence right now, was Gunna take my car as far as I cud with the stock turbo but I might save the money instead and invest in a ko4 conversion. You wont see 200 out of ur car unless u spend in ko3s turbo etc so Wud say around a grand if ur getting it fitted and mapped . Just a remap and filter and silicone pipe will transform ur car and u won't be far short of 200 bhp

I'm saving to buy a k03s and was planning on fitting it my self, and I was going to get a silicone tip and do the vacuum pipes also and new 007p dv, all in do course, there is a Audi/vw specialist near me that does revo tunning.

is it TC autos by any chance near burstow ?

Sadly, a Revo dealer will be of no use to you, the AGU, being a very early 1.8T, is largely unsupported these days by all buy a few tuners.

Revo do not offer a map for the ko3S on an AGU, only a stage 1 map for a car with a stock turbo only.

Fit the ko3S, and if you can a 3'' downpipe / decat for £100 on ebay, and take the car to Rtech in Hinckley, and you will see a happy 220bhp from it, for a very reasonable cost :)

That will give you the kick and power you want, and I'm fairly sure it'll feel quicker than your Delta at 210bhp too!

Yeah that is them in Burstow mate, the other place I went was Austec racing in Crawley, they want 390+VAT to a 30hp chip in it,

Cheers for the advice Prawn I'll go downt that route of ko3s and the exhaust route then find rtech

If changed to a silicone tip and put on a silicone turbo intake pipe onto my ko3 would that make much of a difference to the boost/spoll up than the standard pipes?

made lots of difference to mine, pants to fit over the turbo though, was tight on mine. i got a quicker spool up on the turbo, and the revs felt alot smoother. gives the induction a bit more roar too. i got a creations motorsport one off ebay, was 70 quid. As for boost though we are limited on the ecu as to what boost we run, as mine is remapped i got more boost to play with.

tc autos are well over priced and ripped off my mate who had a passat tdi. austec racing dont specialise in VAG cars and they are over priced. stick with amd or rtech mate.

I found another company not to far from tc garage I will be getting it remapped from them I got a good vibe from them, they knew there stuff. I need to get a few things done first before I go down the route of remap, I need to get 2 front tyres and get the trackng done first, I'm trying to source a yellow tip also
