If it wasnt for this forum, i'd be standin on the hard shoulder of the motorway in the rain, saying "what the F*ck is wrong wi this piece of sh*te now?"

Well, I was headin to the shops (12 miles away) to buy buckie for ma lads (sons all over 18 btw) the car started to lurch and misfire, then assumed the sound of a scooby...only without the power to pull the quilt off yer missus if you got lucky!!! (firing on 3 cylinders)

Due to reading about a lot of coilpack failures, I instantly knew what was wrong...

A quick dash to "Specialist Cars" VW dealer in Kirkcaldy in Fife, secured the latest rev coilpack, they were unconcerned that it was for an audi, here you go. Lifesavers. (fecking £40 though!!! can you believe that!! jeesus if i had the time i could have had 2 off vagparts for that, but hey I had it fixed within half an hour of the fault occuring.

Tried No1 cyl first, bingo! Smooth as a babys bum, and back to her old self. Worth £40 but I will buy some from vagparts before the next one goes. Cheers Audi-Sport and its members. That happened at 5pm tonight and I would have taken MUCH longer to get it fixed had I not known exactly where to look from others posting with the same problem.

:)

Sounds like Coil pack fever is about. So many are going...
either that or the Dreaded Oil sludge..

I wonder if that top cover makes the coilpacks overheat.....its the foam under it that leads me to think that, and the coilpacks do get mighty hot when its been running.

:think:Yeah your right there Evil, they get ****** hot.
You have a good point though

When the Audi Assist man came to sort mine, I had a couple of faults codes, as above. He explained that the engine cant identify exactly which cylinder is misfiring, but it emits some sort of frequecy which the ECU triangulates to suggest which cylinder is misfiring.....

So, while your's says it cylinder 1, it might not be

On mine, first it said #8, then it said randon / multiple, then it said #5.

I replaced # 8 and jobs a good'n

Hi Jase - sorry ive not been on for a few days, but no1 is at the front nearest the rad mate. It was the first one I tried and it worked right away so I went no further. (technically speaking lol)

I got my last one (about 3 weeks ago) from Birmingham Audi for £29 inc VAT. I had one from an autospares place once for around £25 which worked ok but the emission light wouldn't go off. I was told by Midland VW that it was because it was not a genuine part so got one from Audi and the light went out straight away. Keep the non genuine one as a spare now in case one goes.

cheers lads, the only light i have had is the engine light on the top left which flashed a couple of times then went of. i have reset all the fault codes just waiting for the new packs now

cheers for that evil i thought it was but best to double check

All parts from me are OEM (Brand New) and the prices include VAT. Can also offer free delivery on small items.

The coils are £19 +vat trade from TPS (genuine parts) if i had a pound for everyone i've fitted to VAG cars and Renaults i'd be rich:)

I had two go in the same day, couldnt believe it, had it dagnosed and sorted £18 each delivered on the trade account - drove around fine for about 4 hours and then another went - I now have two spare in my glove box!
