I am randomly getting my alarm going off but I'm not sure what's causing it. We have CCTV and there are definitely no theft attempts when the alarm goes off. I thought it could be spiders or something setting it off but I don't know if they can set off an ultrasonic alarm?

I did a scan with VCDS and nothing is pointing to the alarm being triggered (e.g. door being opened etc.). I'm thinking it could be the original battery going bad. I checked the terminals directly on the battery with a multimeter this morning (the alarm went off last night) and the voltage was 12.24v. The measuring blocks in module 19 show as below:

IDE00019 Voltage terminal 30 11.5 V
IDE00020 Terminal 15 status Terminal 15 on
IDE01834 Battery voltage 11.687 V
IDE01836 Battery current -15.659 A
IDE01839 Battery charge level 50 %
IDE01842 Usable battery charge 20 Ah
IDE01843 Battery voltage at rest 12.1 V
IDE03256-MAS06106 Battery adaptation-Battery technology EFB
IDE03256-MAS06107 Battery adaptation-Battery manufacturer BA2
IDE04186 Battery terminal recognition connected
IDE07616 Battery degradation for start/stop mode Phase 1

To give some context, I drove the car to work and back yesterday and Tuesday which is a 40 mile round trip. Yesterday, start/stop started to work which to me suggests that the battery has a good state of charge (of course other things can affect start/stop) and was parked up around 7:30pm. The car was connected to a CTEK battery charger on the weekend for about 2 days. The alarm went off at 00:50ish last night. It's done this a few times before and one time it went off during the day for no obvious reason after a 45 mile drive.

The usable battery charge looks low considering its a 69Ah battery. I do have a Thinkware F770 dashcam installed with the cut off voltage set to 12v, so this may not be helping. I've now increased the cut off to 12.2v.

Does anyone have any ideas as to what could be going on? Is my battery dead? I can post the VCDS AutoScan if needed

Could be a dodgy door, bonnet, boot switch. Maybe water has got into one of the switches.
I have the same camera set to 12v and no false alarms. Even when my battery died I didn’t get false alarms but yours does show low charge.
does the scan show which sensor was tripped for the alarm to go off?

It doesn't say what caused it to go off which is why I think its the battery.

The AutoScan is below, maybe I have missed something when checking it?

How old is the battery? Was told the efb batteries has a lifespan of about 3-4 years and needs replaced. Mine died in a year and replaced under warranty.
don’t know if it’s the same with the audis but previous cars I’ve had if the alarm goes off the first time you unlock the indicators or led flashes and the number of flashes corresponds to what was tripped like door, bonnet etc.

It's the original battery so around 3.5 years old. I was thinking of changing it to a Bosch S5 AGM

I have a plan for now: Disconnect the dashcam, fully charge the battery, measure the voltage at the terminals and see if the battery drains considerably to 12v by itself, if it does then its probably kaput, if it doesn't, the dashcam is likely the culprit. I believe a fully charged battery is around 12.5-12.7v

I have a JB4 connected to the OBD port but I can't see that causing battery drain

mine after a good drive settles around 12.3-4 volts. These new batteries are unlike the old
School lead acid batteries they can have a good state of charge and still be low 12.xx Volts.
think the obd can drain more than you think.

Battery is on its way out - whether that’s the root cause or not, but likely it is, even with a current drain when car switched off. If you are swapping, then do go AGM as they are a lot better even if a bit more expensive and are better suited to stop/start as well as coping with partial charge.

Bosch and Varta are the same battery with different stickers on them. FL cars don’t need BEM codes, just change the battery serial number, capacity in VCDS and set battery type to ‘fleece’ if you fit an AGM.

You’ll get more info with an updated VCDS cable as yours looks to be previous generation.

When changing the battery, do remove the air box as it makes access much easier. I didn’t and it made a quick 10 min job a lot longer.

Just curious why change it to fleece? Is it better?
On mine there’s an option for agm batteries.

Good question - it seems those with AGM batteries from factory were coded as fleece. I don’t know why they have separate fleece and AGM options.

done some digging around the interweb and there’s no definitive answer. Some say fleece is a German translation for agm as it’s the material used. Agm coding is meant for binary/bipolar agm batteries which is a different type of battery.
maybe the more knowledgeable on here can weigh in.

So far it’s at 12.3v since taking it off charge Friday evening and disconnecting the dashcam. I had to start it a couple times to move it so that’s not helped probably. If it drops to 12v tomorrow then it’s probably on its way out.

Checked mine this morning and it was at 11.6v. Car still started, no warning and charge status was around 50-60%. Think the charge status on these new type batteries is more important than the voltage. My cars just been used to shops and back so not had many long journeys.

I had the same problem with a TTRS. It took AUDI some time to rectify the problem. It turned out to be corrosion around the battery associated with the siren of the alarm. I hope this helps.

Did you ever figure this out? I have the same set up as you and the very same issue.

Yeah, keeping the battery charged stops the alarm going off by itself. The battery itself is still OK so I'm going to sweat it until it fails. I recommend a CTEK charger if you haven't got one already.

I guess replacing the battery might fix the issue. My battery reads 12.5volts with a multimeter ,but my terminal 30 is around 11.7 using obd
