I'll openly admit I'm a bit of a novice with alloys and I know there's "willtheyfit" but it might as well be a different language.

I'm looking at some new alloys (20 inch, 9.0j and ET45). I have the stock S5 alloys which I believe are 19 inch 8.5j and ET32.

In layman's terms what does the higher ET number mean? I'd assume I'd need to go down a tyre size as well so they fit? So from 255/35/19 to 255/30/20?

Any helps appreciated!

As with the offset you quoted is too high...they will sit in the arches much more at that ofset! you can easily run 10j et 35 265/0r 275 /30/20 depending on how you want the tyre to sit on the rim. I r un 275/30/20 ET 27 with no issues at all

S5 won't be lowered. Sorry mate I really don't follow what you said, apologies. Like I said it's a foreign language this alloy thing for me.

ET is the offset from the centre - how much the wheels will protrude or not from the centre of the wheel (imagine a vertical line)

A smaller ET means they protrude more and a larger ET will mean the wheels are more inset into the wheel arches.

In your example, going for a 32 from 45 will mean they will sit in the arches more than your current.

The link and your explanation does help, thanks! So from what I can understand it'll be closer to the suspension strut, plus the wheel is wider which makes it worse?

Yes, the centre of the wheel is nearer the strut/centre of the car.

the real test is to see if you can visit he place selling them and test fit it to see how it sits on your car. A good set of alloys can make a car but a poor match can ruin the looks of a car.

Just digging up an old post. I’ve been looking at getting some RS5 alloys to put on my S5, currently my stock tyres are 255/35/19. However, I see most RS5’s run 275/30/20 - would running these tyres throw my speedo out?

I’ve used a few websites and I’m getting different answers from each! Will they fit says that my Speedo will under-read so at 60 I’d actually be doing 58.94 which is fine, no issue with that. However, another website says that my Speedo would be too slow and that when doing 60 I’d actually be doing 60.9 which is more of an issue.

Am I being thick or missing something obvious?

Current S5 comes with 255/35/19 tyres on the base model and 265/30/20 tyres on the Edition 1 and Vorsprung models.

Speedo should be fine

That fitment will be good to go!
