Alternator replacement on my b6 avant Quattro 2.5v6 tdi

Battery light came on 4 days ago, I’m not surprised as my old a4 avant did the same thing at around the same mileage. BUT where they differ entirely is the effort to change, the v6 beast I had to take the whole front end off as this is the only way you can do as the tensioner is hidden under the pulley and Cambelt covers. Needless to say she is back together with new alternator as new battery did not remedy the issue so needed to replace alternator.

That's strange.Mine was changed a few years ago and I don't think the garage had that bother.Been running fine since so seems to have been done right

These big engines are a nightmare to work on. Had the same when I put a new alternator on my 2.5tdi T5, whole front end off. Oh, and I had to do it twice

They didn't mention this to me but I recall that it seemed to take longer than I expected.Dont think I will bother with the belts again now that it has little use and value is negligable
