Hi Guys,

Pretty unusual question, the aluminium trims on the cars.. is this a surface finish that can be painted?

I assumed that it was a finish that could not be replicated by a bodyshop? I have found a bargain of a car, without the Alu pack but all the other spec is there. Would I have to buy the OEM trims online for say £500+, or does anyone have a positive experience in a bodyshop working with this colour?

I know the bodyshop we use will say they can do anything, then they will c*** up the splitter and fail to do it haha. I suppose it is just painted matt silver?

Thanks in advance,

Matthew

Never heard of anyone wanting to change to Ali trim

I'd say you would need to change it but that's a nightmare,
need to take rear quarter windows out not worth it.
A good wrapper may be able to get a similar wrap and they can def be wrapped well.

I took a look at mine this morning. The front scoops and the rear trim around the exhaust/diffuser is just coloured plastic. The roof rails feels like cold solid metal. I'm not sure I'd want to be applying a wrap anywhere near the exhaust though!

The plastic trims will be painted, but the roof rails? Depends if you are going to use them with bars and the resultant damage to the paint from the clamps. The window trims though might not look right painted.

When you say Ali trim, is it actually the internal trim, or external pack?

Apologies for being unclear.

By trim I don't mean window trims as they are already Alu finish.

I just mean the front splitter and what would be silver trim around the rear diffuser.

They come off easy nutta prob pic silver ones up for a good price and get them wrapped

I haven't found any silver but there is a scratched black on on eBay for £92 posted. Seems a bit of a bargain really.

One of the first things on the list if this car works out, fingers crossed!! I have my third painful wait for a call back from the dealer.

If it is only the plastic trims, then yes, a paintshop can definitely do these - if they are good, pay attention to prep and use two-pak paint, then have yours painted and save the £92..

Yea just get ones on car painted colour is this car your after now nitta

My only thought of buying the spare, is I'd have the original body colour splitter to put on if need be. I suppose I could always pay for Audi to paint it, would still be cheaper than buying a spare.. maybe!

Get a normal body shop to do it it's not being colour matched and it's off the car they literally can't really **** it up get it done cheaper than Audi who will prob just out source it anyway to same place but with Audi tax on

Infact wrap it then you can peel it off if need be in future

I would wrap it, but you wouldn't get the right alu finish. It still has to match the alu surround on the grill.

We have what used to be a good body shop, but they are hit and miss now. They are wheel specialists that paint cars as well, maybe one in every 4 sets of wheels we put in... we get a good set, literally that bad haha.

Anybody got a bodyshop to recommend in South Wales, or surrounding areas?

Painting ain't going to looked like brushed Ali either butts seriously go see a good wrapper see their finish.

P.s you getting the car?

Looks like I will, fingers crossed.

I've managed to get the deposit in full that this dealer wanted, although I'm still trying to knock him down. I won't say I'm having it until I have arranged collection (hopefully Friday) as I don't want to jinx anything.

The car is relatively basic spec but has all the essentials and fit my current budget, still an RS3 nonetheless. If I get confirmation tomorrow I will post some details.

Another failure in trying to buy one, 3rd time! Black Horse keep changing the goal posts and now want a £8600 deposit for a car worth £42k, they can jog on.

I know you have failed with this one but if you need to change the colour of any trims could you not foil dip them as that will give a brushed alu effect or carbon etc depending on the colour of the car you manage to get.

I will be holding off for a while now, I have 9 hard searches on my credit file now and that's not very good at all.

Maybe in 6 months I will look at one higher mileage, gutted!!!
