Hi All - following my post last week ago my clutch slip been getting various quotes for new uprated clutches and flywheels. Just got off the phone to a specialist so thought i'd check what you guys have done - so was advised that to do the change the subframe has to be dropped so all these bolts then need replacing as they are one time only use - does the subframe have to be dropped and if so have you replaced all the bolts?
Second question/advise was that the DMF always has to be changed with a new clutch - is this true? I was under the impression that as long as it was in good condition then it didn't have to be done? I understand the rational for doing it while all apart based on labour cost but is it really a must? Thanks in advance.

Yes they are stretch bolts and need to be changed for new ones. I never changed the dual mass on my last car

Hi mate,

Had a previous S3 changed i never replaced the bolt but for the sake of £250/300 you might aswel change the DMF as then you know you got another 80+k before anything needs doing again. I had Sach Clutch LUK DMF im sure it was that way around.

Really mate its how much you can afford and what do you want to achieve.

If you want to buy a £100 clutch from ebay and have it fitted for £100 then so be it. Will probably work and be fine for a few months, But if your keeping the car and looking to get some extra power then doing it properly is the way forward as other wise you be back asking why is my car doing this etc.
So its your choice and preference mate and also down to how much you want to spend. :icon thumright:

100% need uprated clutch- no doubt in that as the previous owner fitted a Standard clutch that just can’t handle the extra torque. Just the first I’d heard of having to change all subframe bolts too.

I never changed the bolts mate, probably the right thing to do but i used old bolts and lock tight, never had a problem.

It’s about 8 stretch bolts that need to be changed - they are about £6 from Audi.

Yes subframe needs to be dropped - not taken right off however.

For the sake of a couple of hundred get the DMF changed at the same time. Assessing the condition of these isn’t always easy if you’re having clutch issues.
