As the title, are there many known faults I need to look out for on the S6?
Going to see one on Saturday.
Thanks
Paul

Is that an expensive thing to get checked/cleaned?
Thanks

O yes, it in the middle of the V so a hell of a lot has to be removed to get to the filter. Nice video of it here

Personally if I had a car with this engine I would bin the filter and make sure the oil is changed every 6months or 5K miles. The retail on the turbos is £2.6K each! Now I'm sure you could get them cheaper form third party specialists but even then you are looking a big bill due to the amount of labour required to replace them. I know it's a bit of a scare story but there are plenty of S&RS owners out there with this engine that have kissed goodbye to their turbos.

Does it affect all years? Alot of the posts are relating to 2013 2014 c7 variants!
Does the C7.5 still suffer?

Can you remove the oil stainer easily enough of is it still front end removal?

It's still in the middle of the V, not sure if you have to remove the front but it's a lot of work. There was a revised part, but it's still a filter and like any filter it's going to get blocked over time. This is a screen shot of etka for a MY 17 S6 and they show the strainer should be replaced with the turbos.

You will be seeing older cars affected by this due to age and mileage, but as the years and the miles pass more cars will be affected. (Kind of the same as the haldex filters on the S3) As I said this is a bit of a scare story and you may never be affected but due to many users having this issue then it would be on my mind. I would love to meet the engineer at Audi who thought this was a good idea, they could have but it in a better location so it was a serviceable item!

JHM make a re-location kit for the strainer, making it a servicable item, not cheap but for the time and possibly money you save down the line it might be worth it.

Why not keep the BiTDi and buy a cheap V8 such an Audi S5, Mustang or Merc?
My BiTDi has just averaged 40 mpg on a family holiday to the Isle of Wight.

Dont really need 2 cars and paying the extra tax insurance etc would be pointless really.
Plus the interior spec of the S6 and 450 ponnies is drawing me in

Are there any signs of this issue I can look out for on the test drive?

Thanks

I don't believe so, as it's oil starvation to the turbo's only and over the years I've never heard anyone say they heard of felt the turbo failing due to starvation. You could hear if it was oil starvation due to an oil pump failure as the top end would sound very noisy, but that filter only feeds the turbos. You may start to hear a loud squeal as the turbo shaft is rubbing against the housing but my guess is you need to rev the engine with your head under the bonnet, but at that point it's getting to late as the turbo shafts would be damaged.

Are there not oil pressure sensors on the turbo feeds, or is it just for the whole engine. If there are you could monitor these?

Edit:

Might also be worth looking at an extended warranty from Audi?

I have read that the engines will be making a squealing noice under acceleration when the turbos are failing?

Swapped my turbos at 52k and they were in pristine condition. Fitted the updated oil screen and will continue to change oil every 5-6k miles

Did you change the turbos yourself? And why did you change em?
