Anyone retro fitted Heated Seats & B7 Steering Wheel question

Anyone point me in the right direction or has anyone done this yet?

Also to those of you who have changed your steering wheels for a B7 one do you have to inform your insurance company?

I guess if you aren't a professional auto-electrician and you re-wired it badly... and then the car is involved in an accident, the airbag didn't deploy and it then caused somebody an unnecessary injury, then you might have some awkward questions to answer and I'm sure that would invalidate your insurance somewhere, if not more (just the same if you caused an accident by fitting your own brakes and bodged it), likewise if you're fitting a non-OEM (or non airbagged) steering wheel, then you would be changing the spec of the car, but if it's OEM and professionally installed it shouldn't be an issue.

Heated seats have been done before - I think that was on A4mods somewhere - it's a pretty big piece of work and only really looks the part if you find some donor seats ratehr than trying to retro-fit the heating pads, so it tends to be prohibitive price-wise....
 
Retro-fitting heated seats is very easy to do. You will need the two seats from another car that had them fitted at the factory, ebay would be a good place to start. You will also need the Climate panel with the heated seat switches, and also the wiring loom that is avialable from www.Kufatec.de

It took me about 2 hours to do mine, and its' ooo soooo nice in this weather.

Regarding the steering wheel retro-fit. If you try and fit a dual stage airbag wheel to a car that has single stage airbag systems, then in an accident the drivers airbag will not deploy. Read this thread, and it will become apparent. My question is technically it is a modification and you would have to tell your insurance company no? Irrespective of if it was installed by your or professionally as it is not a standard fitting to have a B7 steering wheel in a B6 given that the issue with dual stage air bag setup and the fact no one actually knows if the air bag works effectivley?
 
If you did change your steering wheel knowing that the modification would affect the car's safety system then yes you would have to tell you insurance company, the same if you ever re-mapped your ECU. As this has now made your car non-factory standard. You could argue the fact that this could apply to changing the stereo.
 
Ok sounds that fitting heated seats is easy if you have them? kufatec say that most recaro air bag seats have the heat mats fitted at factory but i have a 8H sport 2003 with leather are they fitted to these? would like to know just in case i come across a climate with the switches!

now that would be worth finding out....can't believe whoever ordered mine paid for elecitric leather then was too tight to pay for heated LOL

Seems very common on leathered A4,s my brother in law has a lovely s line b7 leather and no heaters. When I bought my B6 I decided to get one with cloth seats rather than suffer non heated leather.
 
Hi markyzs let me know asap the loom is easy to get. hard bit is the switch is you mates a cab is it built into the climate or seperate switches
 
It's certainly nice to have these at the present time! I only normally turn mine up to (3) as (6) just burns.....
 
Cockney yeah I have to agree with you on your points, has anyone who has changed the steering wheel told there insurance company?

Also if you have leather how do you find out if they have the pads fitted already?

Hopfully it is the 2 spare plugs that arnt being used that are underneath like on mine.
 
If the car did not come with heated seats, then the factory would not have fitted them without it being on the original order. You will need to find a pair of donor seats that match exactly the ones you are taking out. i was lucky that this guy was breaking up a car with the same interior. You will find that some Audi A4 seats should fit into an A3 and visa versa.

As i said the mod is easy, but if you do get a replacment Climate panel, it may require a trip down the local Audi dealer to get the Component protection removed.

Don't worry a4nut, for starters i'll be mooching under my seats and requesting pics from the 'hot ***' brigade :)

As far as I'm aware, the ones that haven't been deployed are where people have done home DIY jobs and they've either completely bodged wiring the B6's single phase impact sensor to the high impact airbag, or they've tried to wire both airbags into the B6's single phase system... this is what a few of the DIY guys have done and it will NOT WORK: we need NHN or one of those guys to confirm this, but my understanding is that the system will only produce sufficient signal to trigger one set, so when that signal is split out to two, the signal isn't sufficient to trigger: net result, neither airbag gets a clear signal and nothing goes off.

If you're going to do this: find an professional who has experience with VAG airbags and knows what they're doing: my vote of confidence from him is that I saw he had his own B6 setup with a B7 RS4 wheel (and airbag) :)

losty and i both have the same flat bottom wheels fitted and by the sounds of it fitted by the same guy and i second everything hes said, although i guess we would never know 100% untill it was to late !
as for imforming the insurance, i havent, " it was fitted when i bought it and its a genuine audi one so i never questioned it " would be my reply to them lol
 
Hi all newbie well my 1st post. I have a a4 b7 s line, I'm looking at full s line leather. Can any one tell me is the green connector on the seats for heated seats ? if so what do i need to get them working ?

Mine's declared as "modified interior", but not "airbag removed" (i.e. it's not a chavtastic little momo wheel, etc). If the insurance company invalidated it due to an airbag failing, then the installer that fitted it should have company liability insurance: I'd really hope it would never come to that as it would mean somebody had potentially got unnecessarily injured, but that would be the insurance fall-back position.

Theoretically I guess that could happen with any failure: if your car is serviced by somebody who fails to put something back together and renders the care unroadworthy and not safe to drive, then I would have thought insurers would be chasing up the people who last did that maintenance, but that would just be less easy to prove than an non-standard (albeit still OEM quality) steering wheel.
