ASZ 1.9tdi Crankshaft sensor no signal, cut out and won't start.

My A3 ASZ Quattro cut out under hard acceleration and wont restart.
A look under the bonnet and the air intake pipe had come off between the maf and the aluminium air intake pipe, put it back on and
did a scan.

Got a fault code of no signal from crankshaft sensor, so I replaced the sensor, cleared the fault and tried to restart.
Got the same fault code again.
Anyone had this or point me in the right direction?

Wow, not heard of that in over 10 years working on PD's, they are beefy bits of kit. Usually the transporter engines that snap their cams.

Any idea what caused it?
