Recently I noticed that A6 45TDI (3L Diesel Quattro 8speed Tiptronic with 231bhp) was no longer available in online configurator on Audi website. Initially I thought that this was dictated by lack of interest in buying lower powered version of the 3L diesel version which in fact is nearly identical with 50tdi, 55tdi and S6.
45tdi was the cheapest way to get your hands on proper all wheel drive Quattro with 3L diesel with torque converter, rear diff and 8speed tiptronic gearbox making it easy to upgrade from 231bhp to 350bhp and 500Nm to 700N matching S6 performance. Not anymore, Audi has just reintroduced 45tdi (already re-listed in some EU countries) but this time without Quattro which has been replaced by Quattro Ultra, without indestructible 8speed tipptronic now replaced with 7speed dual clutch and obviously without rear differential.
Luckily 50tdi is still available…
