Audi 80 1993 2.0l Erratic Idle... Help???

Hello,

Got an intermittent idle speed problem. I experience this once every couple of days. The typical symptoms are: when driving I'd pull up to a set of lights, instead of the engine dropping its revs back down to 900-1000rpm, the idle wavers between 2000 & 3000 rpm. The only way to temporarily correct the fault is to switch the ignition off for a couple of seconds, re-start and everything is then fine again!?

Has anyone experienced the same or know where I might start to correct the fault?

it could be a sticking idle speed stabilization valve, there is also a switch connected onto the throttle valve assembly that tells the ECU when your car should idle, i.e. foot off the go pedal...
what fuel system does your car use? ke-motronic?

Check all your air pipes ie mine had a leakin pipe and it effected the idle speed ! worth a try
